The Operations Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the manager with the overall management of the warehouses and transportation in the assigned area. They will ensure that warehouses are organized and run efficiently, that warehouses/yards are cleaned regularly and are free from safety hazards, and that necessary maintenance requests and purchase orders are turned in and followed up on to keep facilities and machinery operational. This position is also responsible for ensuring that transportation needs are met in a consistent, efficient, and timely manner; coordinating activities between warehouses, transportation, stores and ADC sites; including pick-up and delivery of donations from ADCs and bins, product to and from stores, and properly maintaining the fleet of trucks and trailers. Must adhere to all Goodwill Industries rules, policies and safety procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating and managing employees to provide an efficient and effective workforce.

Direct, coach, counsel, and train staff to meet or exceed performance expectations.
- Responsible for timely intervention, discipline and appropriate documentation for all employees.

Ensure that all performance evaluations are conducted accurately and administered on time.

Ensure employee status changes are reported accurately and timely.

Comply with Goodwill Industries employment practices and EEO guidelines and policies.
- Identify, train and develop to ensure proper succession planning for assigned departments.

Resolve employee issues in a timely and professional manner in accordance with Goodwill Industries policies and standards.

Establish highest-quality customer service standards for all staff including courteous, lawful driving and respectful treatment of all customers and staff.

Encourage innovation from staff to assist in improvement of processes and to promote growth within the department.

Work closely with Warehouse staff to strengthen their leadership skills by delegating responsibilities and holding staff accountable for accurate, timely completion of tasks.

Ensure timely, accurate, and efficient dispatch of trucks/trailers to/from all sites including stores, ADCs, donation bins, etc.

Develop and implement cleaning duties/schedules for facilities and equipment.

Ensure that all equipment including baler, compactor, forklifts, tractors, trailers, etc., and facilities are maintained and kept functional.

Direct the safety and security efforts for personnel and facilities under your control, including key and lock management.

Ensure that the baler is running for a full shift every day in order to maximize salvage textile sales.

Understand operations’ Profit and Loss statements and actively seek ways to decrease costs such as fuel, labor, supplies, repairs, maintenance, etc.

Ensure that all necessary paperwork and documentation is processed accurately and in a timely manner.

Manage within prescribed budget limitations and monitor expenses of all personnel.

Forecast future maintenance and equipment needs for planning and budget needs.

Ensure accuracy in all expenses and reports associated with overall management of the Alaska Transportation Department.

Responsible for safety/legal requirements, paycheck distribution for all employees in the assigned area.

Ensure that the required forklift training is provided for essential Goodwill employees in the assigned area.

Notify immediate supervisor of any problems or unusual situations, including callouts, accidents, driving citations, etc.

Responsible for the efficient collection and transportation of refuse.
-
Responsible for the efficient transportation and storage of donated goods.

Assist the manager to ensure proper adherence by staff to company policies and procedures; utilizing intervention recommended by Human Resources (HR) to effectively maintain discipline.

EXPERIENCE
One to three years’ managerial experience required. Transportation and/or warehouse experience preferred.
EDUCATION
No minimum education requirement.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have a valid state appropriate driver’s license and insurable driving record.
