The opportunity
American Bath Group is seeking a hands-on Field Service Technician to provide reliable in-house repair coverage across the Eugene, Oregon territory. This is a mobile, customer-facing role for someone who can diagnose problems, complete finish-sensitive repairs correctly the first time, and manage a field workload without daily onsite supervision.
The position is built for a practical operator who takes pride in craftsmanship, protects the customer's space, communicates early, and closes every service visit with complete documentation. Direct bathware experience is not required; strong transferable repair skill and demonstrated practical aptitude are.
YOUR MANDATE
Safely diagnose and repair ABG products right the first time, operate the assigned territory at full capacity, complete standard work within the 14-day service expectation, reduce avoidable warranty cost, and improve the customer experience.
What you will own
Hands-on repairs. Prepare surfaces and complete finish-sensitive or structural repairs using the appropriate tools, materials, and techniques.
Diagnosis. Separate product defects from installation or adjacent-system issues, identify root cause, select the right repair path, and escalate only when the work is outside scope or authorization.
First-time quality. Inspect your work, correct ordinary defects, and prevent callbacks through disciplined preparation, finish judgment, and follow-through.
Territory execution. Plan routes, appointments, travel, materials, vehicle readiness, and daily priorities across a changing field workload.
Customer care. Protect occupied homes and job sites, explain the work clearly, maintain professional appearance and etiquette, clean the area, and earn customer sign-off.
Safety. Use PPE, power tools, chemicals, respirators, and workspace controls correctly; stop or escalate when conditions are unsafe or outside authorization.
Remote visibility. Submit accurate before-and-after photos, repair details, materials used, customer confirmation, status updates, and escalation notes from assignment through closure.
Service reliability. Communicate delays before they become surprises and recover proactively from parts, weather, travel, schedule, or customer constraints.
What success looks like
Right-first-time workmanship. Repairs meet the expected functional and finish standard without avoidable repeat visits.
Dependable closure. Standard work progresses toward completion within the 14-day service expectation, with risks escalated early.
Independent operation. Your route, time, tools, materials, inventory, and follow-up stay organized without daily onsite supervision.
Safe execution. You protect yourself, the customer, the work area, and company property while following required procedures.
Defensible documentation. A remote manager or warranty partner can understand what happened, what was repaired, and whether the customer accepted the work.
What you bring
Demonstrated hands-on repair craftsmanship in bathware or a transferable trade such as automotive or marine body work, refinishing, fiberglass or acrylic repair, plumbing repair, or comparable finish-sensitive service work.
Ability to explain a repair from preparation through final finish, including tools, materials, sequence, quality checks, defect correction, and result.
A repeatable troubleshooting approach that tests assumptions, identifies root cause, and confirms the repair resolved the issue.
Experience managing a mobile, route, territory, installation, maintenance, service, or independent project workload with limited daily supervision.
Professional customer communication in occupied homes, construction sites, warehouses, or other finish-sensitive environments.
Comfort using email, digital photos, service records, customer sign-off, and proactive status communication.
Strong safety discipline around vehicles, power tools, dust and fumes, chemicals, housekeeping, PPE, and physical work.
Coachability and the ability to learn new materials, products, repair methods, and prescribed quality standards.
This role may be a strong fit if...
You would rather solve the problem yourself than coordinate someone else's work.
You take personal pride in finish quality and notice details that can create a callback.
You can work alone without becoming invisible: your schedule, updates, photos, notes, and follow-through remain dependable.
You stay calm in a customer's home or on a job site and can explain responsibility, scope, delay, or next steps professionally.
You accept that field service changes: travel, parts, weather, complexity, and customer availability may require reprioritization.
Role realities and requirements
Field-based work. This is not a remote desk position and not primarily a dispatch, estimating, coordination, or supervisory role.
Travel and schedule. The position covers an assigned territory, may support work outside that territory, and requires overnight travel when needed. Weekly operating demands may range from 40 to 50 hours depending on travel and service volume.
Driving. A valid, unrestricted driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required, subject to company verification before vehicle release.
Physical work. Essential duties may include lifting and carrying tools or materials, kneeling, bending, reaching, entering tight or confined work areas, and sustaining hands-on repair activity, with or without reasonable accommodation.
PPE and chemical use. The role may require respirator use, chemical handling, dust or fume controls, power-tool operation, and other safety measures. Any required medical clearance, fit testing, or training will be managed through the appropriate company process.
Practical validation. Candidates must successfully complete the company's required practical repair, tool-use, safety, learning, diagnosis, and workmanship assessment.
Selection process
Qualified candidates should expect an initial recruiter conversation, practical validation, and a final interview focused on personal authorship, repair judgment, independent field execution, safety, customer care, and documentation. Required driving, HR, Fleet, and EHS confirmations will be completed at the appropriate stage.
Work authorization
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. ABG does not sponsor employment visas now or in the future.
