Full Job Description

Job Summary

Job Purpose: Serves the CSS mission by fostering intentional community through maintaining safety and tidiness of safe spot communities, facilitating weekly meetings, and providing basic case/care management for members of Safe Spot Communities. This position leads a small outreach team and coordinates with relevant departments at CSS that help to provide a low-barrier shelter option and meaningful experience for program participants accessing services and residing across multiple safe spot communities.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Outreach and Social Services

Provide supportive services to program participants enrolled in our shelter programs.
Lead outreach meetings at multiple Safe Spot Communities on a weekly basis.
Support enrichment workshops with staff and community partners related community management, arts, music, mental health, financial literacy, and service navigation.
Provided case/care coordination with service navigation team and other providers to ensure a high quality of care for unhoused clients residing at Safe Spot Communities.
Provide basic case/care management related to services such as identification assistance, transport, information and referral, and one-one-one support.
Transport clients and belongings in vehicles to Safe Spots. and other institutional settings
Foster an inclusive atmosphere that uses harm reduction, trauma informed care, and motivational interviewing on a daily basis.
Engage in deescalation, conflict mediation, and resolution for program participants.
Proactively schedule and facilitate constructive conversations assisting communities to work through issues and needs that arise during general meetings.
Support program participants experiencing mental illness, addiction, cognitive disabilities and/or other mental health related disabilities.
Maintain professional boundaries with clients enrolled in our programs.
Manage case notes using database tools on a daily basis.
Manage file systems for personal information and required documentation using form tools, paper files, and case management databases on a daily basis.
Implement corrective actions with clients related to program compliance and safety.
Support clients during the move-in, transfer, and move-out process at Safe Spot Communities.

Property Management

Support the supervision of Safe Spot Communities and communicate needs of the property to management and operations staff in a professional and timely manner.
Conduct daily inspections of properties in assigned site portfolio to report safety issues or hazards.
Complete hut inspections to ensure participants are maintaining compliance with health and habitation standards.
Remove biohazards or waste that pose a threat to the health and safety of the community.
Assist in the operational aspects of the Safe Spot Communities such as supply delivery, onsite sanitation support, and one-on-one client support cleaning their huts.
Complete minor repairs to infrastructure, huts, and gates using hand tools, landscaping equipment or power tools as needed.
Complete inspections of vehicles and communicate routine maintenance needs with management.
Coordinate and prepare Safe Spot locations for tours and inspections.
Ability to lift and carry the personal belongings and resources of program participants.
Ensure Safe Spot Communities are run in compliance with regulatory standards outlined by the contractors and governmental regulatory agencies.

Project Management

Lead a small team of professionals conducting outreach service and onsite property management at Safe Spot Communities.
Support in coordination, training, and meetings of team members.
Maintain and remind team members best practices for safety and security.
Maintain an up-to-date Google calendar and scheduling tools used on a daily basis.
Support management in food services, resource management, and distribution of resources at Safe Spot Communities.
Use database and project management tools such as Trello and Cognito Forms to maintain information related to occupancy, unit status, and needs of each property.
Be accountable for onsite needs, resource allocation, and needs of staff on your team.
Be responsible for communication on the team phone for emergencies or client outreach.
Manage a small budget and be responsible for financial resources on an as needs basis.
Participate in trainings and ongoing professional development as outlined by supervisors.
Collaborate with other staff and community partners in a professional manner.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Comfortably lead 15-20 people in a group meeting.
Ability to write legibly and communicate effectively.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients and staff.
Ability to show up on time and respond to daily scope of work.
Basic knowledge of project leadership and team dynamics.
Basic computer skills and experience with Google Suite, HMIS, or related software.
The ability to listen, empathize, and critically analyze needs of clients.
Be comfortable and grounded during conflict and crisis situations.
Ability to stay neutral, mediate, and resolve conflict among clients.
Being able to listen to rationally detach and remain objective during incidents.
Being able to operate on a schedule and stay focused on daily tasks.
Being adaptable and able to triage based on needs of the situation.
Experience communicating with people from a diverse backgrounds and wite a wide range of abilities.
Experience working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and mental illness.
A current and valid driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Most time will consist of being outdoors, within the common spaces, and huts at Safe Spot Communities.
Heated shared office space will be provided for computer use, coordinating support services for/with campers, and team meetings.
Moving between sites and to attend client meetings at CSS office and/or social service agencies.
Working in inclement weather conditions at times will include but are not limited to extreme cold, extreme heat, rain/wet, and ice/snow.
Some time will be spent in vehicles.

REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
Ability to lift 50 lbs
Ability to work at least two Sundays a month for a 5 hour shift
Experience as a team leader
At least one year working with or supporting unhoused populations

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
