Full Job Description

The Medical Coder Specialist is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and assigning appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding systems. The role ensures accuracy, compliance, and optimization of reimbursement in accordance with current regulations and payer guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

· Review and analyze clinical records to assign standardized medical codes.

· Ensure coded data meets accuracy and regulatory standards (e.g., CMS, HIPAA).

· Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to clarify documentation.

· Enter and verify codes into electronic health records (EHR) or coding systems.

· Maintain confidentiality and security of patient records.

· Stay updated on coding guidelines, payer rules, and compliance requirements.

· Assist with audits, denials management, and appeals, as needed.

· Support process improvement in coding practices and revenue cycle operations.

Qualifications:

· Certification required: CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or equivalent.

· Minimum [1–3] years of coding experience in a clinical or hospital setting preferred.

· Proficiency with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.

· Experience using EHR, Specifically Epic

· Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and knowledge of medical terminology.
