Starting Salary Range: $65,000–$70,000 DOE
Position: Full-Time, 8am-5pm Monday-Friday
Build a Safety Culture—Not Just a Safety Program.
Bring your safety expertise to an industry that’s anything but ordinary. We’re looking for a practical, hands-on Safety & Compliance Manager who can help our managers and employees in all Oregon locations own safety every day, and who is curious and ready to learn the unique world of industrial and medical gases, transportation, fire protection, manufacturing, and field service.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands that great safety programs aren't sustained by the Safety Manager policing everyone else. We already have many strong safety and compliance programs, systems, and processes in place. Your job is to build on that foundation. Strengthening and continuously improving our systems, training, tools, accountability, and coaching while helping our managers and employees own safety every day. You’ll work collaboratively with co-workers who successfully manage our FDA and DOT compliance programs.
Our operations are diverse and somewhat unique. We work with industrial and medical gases, compressed gas cylinders, commercial vehicles, warehousing and distribution, fire protection systems, welding equipment repair, manufacturing and fabrication, and field installation and service work. We don't expect every candidate to walk in knowing every part of our industry. A strong safety and compliance foundation is important; we're prepared to provide industry-specific training to the right person who is curious, capable, and willing to learn.
What You’ll Do
- Safety Programs & SOPs: Develop, maintain, and continuously improve our company-wide safety programs, policies, procedures, SOPs, and documentation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure our operations meet applicable OSHA, DOT/FMCSA, FDA Medical Gas, EPA, NFPA, hazardous materials, environmental, and other regulatory requirements. Experience in these areas is a significant plus, but we recognize that few candidates will arrive with expertise in every area.
- Training & Development: Coordinate and deliver safety onboarding, annual compliance training, safety meetings, forklift, HazMat/DOT, medical gas, emergency response, and other required training. Help managers become stronger safety leaders within their own departments.
- Audits & Corrective Actions: Conduct audits of facilities, fleet, equipment, work practices, driver files, and regulatory requirements. Identify gaps and partner with operational leaders to make sure corrective actions actually get completed.
- Incident Investigation & Prevention: Lead investigations of injuries, vehicle accidents, near misses, property damage, and other incidents. Use root-cause analysis to understand not just what happened, but why it happened and what we can change to prevent it from happening again.
- Workers’ Compensation & Loss Control: Partner with People & Culture, Operations, insurance carriers, and workers' compensation partners to reduce injuries, claims, vehicle incidents, and preventable losses.
- Safety Culture: Build a proactive safety culture through coaching, accountability, hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and continuous improvement. We want employees comfortable speaking up about risks before someone gets hurt.
- Metrics & Accountability: Maintain meaningful safety metrics around injuries, incidents, near misses, training, audits, corrective actions, vehicle accidents, and compliance, and communicate results to leadership.
- Risk Management: Support broader company risk-management efforts involving facilities, equipment, fleet, ISO accreditation, and field installation and service work.
Who You Are
- Safety-Minded and Operations-Minded: You understand safety regulations, but you also understand that policies have to work in the real world. You can walk into an operation, observe how work is actually being performed, identify risk, and help develop practical solutions.
- A Coach, Not Just an Enforcer: You can hold people accountable without making safety an adversarial function. You know how to educate, influence, coach, and build credibility with employees and managers.
- Curious and Willing to Learn: Our industry is specialized. You may not arrive knowing everything about compressed gases, medical gases, cylinders, fire protection, or our specific operations—and that's okay. We need someone who will ask questions, learn quickly, seek out expertise, and ultimately become a trusted internal resource.
- Comfortable in the Field: This isn't a desk-only position. You should enjoy spending time in our branches, warehouses, fill plants, shops, vehicles, and field operations understanding how people actually work.
- Organized and Accountable: Training deadlines, certifications, audits, corrective actions, regulatory requirements, and follow-up can't fall through the cracks. You create systems that keep important work visible and moving.
- Confident Enough to Speak Up: Safety occasionally requires difficult conversations. You're comfortable addressing unsafe practices and have the judgment to recognize when work needs to stop because a serious hazard exists.
What We’re Looking For
We care more about your ability to successfully lead this function than checking every box below.
- Meaningful experience in workplace safety, industrial operations, regulatory compliance, risk management, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of OSHA and general workplace safety requirements.
- Experience with safety inspections, audits, training, incident investigation, corrective actions, or similar responsibilities.
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, transportation, distribution, construction, field service, or another operational environment is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA, HazMat, FDA Medical Gas, EPA, NFPA, workers' compensation, or ISO is highly desirable. The more you already know, the better—but expertise in every area is not required.
- Ability and willingness to learn the regulatory and technical requirements unique to our businesses.
- Strong communication, coaching, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Operations, Engineering, or a related field is preferred, but relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to regularly travel between company locations.
What Success Looks Like
We want to see managers actively owning safety, employees reporting hazards and near misses, training and certifications staying current, audits resulting in timely corrective action, and consistent regulatory compliance across our locations. Over time, we expect preventable injuries, vehicle incidents, and workers' compensation costs to trend downward while our ability to identify and correct risks before something happens continues to improve.
Physical & Travel Requirements
This position requires regular travel to our company locations and occasional customer or field-work locations. You must be comfortable performing inspections in industrial, warehouse, production, fleet, and service environments; working around industrial equipment while wearing appropriate PPE; and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
