Job Description: Sheet Metal Fabricator (Union)
Position Summary

The Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, and preparing sheet metal components used in the production of commercial signs. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and the ability to safely operate fabrication equipment while producing high-quality work that meets company and customer specifications.
The Sheet Metal Fabricator works closely with welders, painters, electricians, installers, and project managers to ensure projects are completed on time and in accordance with company and union standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Measure, mark, and lay out dimensions on sheet metal using blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders.
· Cut, bend, shear, notch, punch, roll, and form sheet metal using hand tools and fabrication equipment.
· Drill, countersink, and prepare holes for assembly and installation.
· Assemble metal components using welding, riveting, bolting, fastening systems, and other approved methods.
· Operate equipment including brakes, shears, punches, saws, rollers, ironworkers, drill presses, and other fabrication machinery.
· Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, shop sketches, and production schedules.
· Verify the dimensions and quality of fabricated parts before moving them to the next production stage.
· Assist with fitting and fabricating sign cabinets, raceways, poles, structural frames, trim, and custom metal components.
· Work with aluminum, steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and other materials used in commercial sign manufacturing.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
· Inspect equipment daily and immediately report maintenance or safety concerns.
· Safely handle materials using forklifts, cranes, hoists, or other lifting equipment, as authorized.
· Collaborate with other production departments to meet project deadlines.
· Minimize material waste while maintaining production efficiency.
· Follow all quality-control procedures to ensure finished products meet company standards.
· Perform other fabrication or production duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
· Previous sheet metal fabrication experience preferred; sign-industry experience is a plus.
· Ability to accurately read tape measures, blueprints, and technical drawings.
· Basic welding experience, preferably MIG welding, is beneficial.
· Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to safely operate fabrication machinery and power tools.
· Forklift certification is a plus, or the willingness to obtain certification.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements
· Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds. Heavier materials require team lifting or mechanical assistance.
· Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday.
· Work around loud machinery while wearing required personal protective equipment.
· Possess the manual dexterity necessary to safely operate hand and power tools.
· Ability to work in varying shop temperatures.
Work Environment
· Manufacturing and fabrication shop environment.
· Exposure to metal dust, welding fumes, machinery, and moderate to high noise levels.
· Required PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, and other designated safety equipment.
