The Role
We're seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to provide technical leadership on overhead line design projects, leading on time, right-first-time delivery and technical excellence across the organization. This role combines strong engineering expertise with technical review and mentorship responsibilities. You'll help guide design outputs, develop the capability of less experienced engineers, and contribute to Groundline's technical standards and reputation with utility clients.
Groundline is also open to considering Principal-level candidates who bring broader technical leadership, industry experience, and client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and review overhead transmission line engineering design in line with client, industry, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements.
- Prepare and review design analyses, calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and other technical deliverables using tools such as PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, PLS-TOWER, and foundation design software.
- Apply sound engineering judgment across electrical clearances, structural analysis, foundations, geotechnical interfaces, routing, constructability, maintenance, and temporary works.
- Identify and manage technical, quality, safety, constructability, schedule, and budget risks, raising issues and solutions with project and technical leads.
- Coordinate with project teams, clients, and other disciplines to support effective delivery, scopes, estimates, schedules, proposals, and technical content.
- Provide technical guidance, review, and mentoring to less experienced engineers and designers, including professional engineering oversight where appropriately licensed and assigned.
- Contribute to technical standards, quality processes, lessons learned, continuous improvement, and Groundline’s culture of technical excellence, safety, accountability, and practical client-focused delivery.
Qualifications, Experience & Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural Engineering, Electrical, or a related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experienced in conceptual through to detailed design of transmission lines.
- Significant experience designing high-voltage overhead transmission lines.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and PLS-TOWER and preferably relevant foundation design and analysis software such as LPILE, MFAD, or equivalent tools.
- Experience leading technical work, performing design reviews, and mentoring engineers and designer.
- Strong understanding of design risk, project forecasting, scheduling, and delivery.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of engineering project risk and reward.
- Strong written, verbal, client, and stakeholder communication skills.
- Experience preparing engineering scopes, estimates, proposals, or quotations.
- 8-10 years of experience in high-voltage overhead transmission line engineering and design (preferred)
- Prior experience in a senior or principal-level transmission line design role, preferably within a consulting environment.
- Experience supporting proposal development, RFP responses, and technical estimation for tenders.
- Established network of utility clients or industry contacts, with a track record of client-driven repeat business.
