Deskside Support

Position Summary

The IT Deskside Support Specialist provides technical support for Windows and Macintosh desktops and laptops, troubleshooting hardware, software, operating system, connectivity, and application-related issues. This role operates effectively in high-stress situations, balancing technical problem diagnosis with exceptional client service.

The position serves as a liaison between assigned support areas and other technology teams to facilitate timely and effective issue resolution. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering a high-quality client experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities below represent the primary functions of the position. Additional duties may be assigned when they are similar, related, or reasonably within the scope of the role.

Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving Windows and Macintosh desktops and laptops, from network connectivity through the end-user device, excluding security patches and updates.
Respond to alerts and escalations from IT support teams by determining probable root causes and taking appropriate corrective action to restore devices to operational status.
Provide technical support for macOS and Apple tools, applications, and related technologies.
Perform operating system updates and maintenance for Macintosh desktops and laptops.
Provide graphical user interface-level support for Mac OS X Server configuration and administration.
Support Macintosh systems operating within Windows-based environments, including virtual environments and Mac OS X Server technologies.
Document troubleshooting steps, findings, and corrective actions in the organization's help desk/ticketing system.
Install, configure, and support virtual desktop clients and applicable Microsoft Office environments.
Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot antivirus and virus-scanning software on desktop and laptop systems.
Assist with identifying, isolating, and remediating Windows and Macintosh devices affected by malware or computer viruses.
Assist with the development and distribution of device remediation and "clean-up" resources, including instructions and end-user documentation.
Install, configure, and update VPN and remote-support software as required.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a technical knowledge base containing troubleshooting and problem-resolution procedures.
Disconnect, reconnect, and relocate desktop computers, peripherals, and related equipment in support of office moves.
Assist with the creation and distribution of IT support communications, notices, and alerts, both verbally and in writing.
Collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure efficient resolution of technology-related issues.
Provide responsive, professional, and empathetic support to clients, particularly during high-priority or high-impact incidents.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Knowledge of CA Service Desk/CA USD or a similar IT service management and ticket-tracking platform preferred.
Strong understanding of desktop technologies and their role within a broader enterprise IT infrastructure.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to overall team and department performance.
Ability to remain composed and effective in a fast-paced, high-quality service environment.
Strong customer-focused mindset and commitment to timely issue resolution.

Regularly required to sit, communicate verbally and through electronic media, use hands to operate standard office equipment, and reach with hands and arms.
Frequently required to walk, stand, and move throughout the workplace to accomplish assigned tasks, including traveling between work areas or sites.
Ability to ascend and descend stairs.
Ability to perform work requiring close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.

Work Environment

This position primarily operates in a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary but may require standing and walking for up to approximately 10% of the workday. Standard office and technology equipment will be available to perform assigned duties.
