Joyful Academy of Music (JAM) is seeking an experienced, engaging, and encouraging Intermediate/Advanced Piano Teacher to join our growing team.
This position is ideal for a teacher who is energized by helping pre-teens, teenagers, and adults progress from foundational musicianship into confident, expressive, and technically capable pianists. Our ideal candidate can teach students at an upper-elementary playing level through advanced repertoire and enjoys helping each student pursue meaningful musical goals.
Whether students are preparing for recitals, auditions, competitions, school ensembles, jazz bands, church worship teams, or simply playing for personal enjoyment, we want a teacher who can challenge them while keeping lessons positive, motivating, and rewarding.

About the Position
As an Intermediate/Advanced Piano Teacher at JAM, you will primarily work with pre-teens, teenagers, and adults. You will provide individualized weekly lessons that help students strengthen their technique, musicianship, confidence, and artistic expression.
Experience teaching classical repertoire is important. The ability to support students interested in contemporary music, jazz, improvisation, arranging, composition, or worship music is also valued.
Responsibilities
- Teach engaging, individualized weekly piano lessons.
- Teach students at an upper-elementary playing level through advanced repertoire.
- Develop lesson plans based on each student’s goals, abilities, interests, and learning style.
- Provide instruction in piano technique, sight-reading, music theory, musical interpretation, practice strategies, and performance skills.
- Select appropriate repertoire and instructional materials.
- Help students develop effective, independent practice habits.
- Prepare students for recitals, auditions, competitions, school music programs, jazz ensembles, worship teams, and other performance opportunities when appropriate.
- Encourage students through challenges while maintaining high musical and technical standards.
- Communicate professionally with students, parents, and the JAM administrative team.
- Maintain a dependable and consistent weekly teaching schedule.
- Participate in paid training, department meetings, and curriculum-development opportunities as scheduled.
- Contribute to JAM’s joyful, welcoming, and collaborative teaching community.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced piano proficiency.
- Ability to confidently teach students from an upper-elementary playing level through advanced levels.
- A genuine love for working with pre-teens, teenagers, and adults.
- Ability to teach technique, sight-reading, theory, interpretation, and performance skills clearly and effectively.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A positive, encouraging, and student-centered teaching style.
- Dependability, professionalism, and organization.
- Availability to maintain a consistent weekly teaching schedule.
- Ability to work in person at our Everett academy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous private-lesson, studio, or classroom teaching experience.
- Degree in music, music education, piano performance, or a related field.
- Equivalent advanced musical training and professional experience will also be considered.
- Experience preparing students for recitals, auditions, competitions, adjudications, school ensembles, jazz bands, or worship teams.
- Experience teaching both classical and contemporary musical styles.
- Familiarity with improvisation, composition, arranging, or collaborative playing.
- Experience adapting instruction to different personalities, learning styles, and musical goals.

Schedule
Available teaching hours include:
- Monday–Friday: 3:00–7:15 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.
This is a part-time position with consistent weekly hours. The exact schedule will be based on teacher availability, academy needs, and student enrollment. Evening and Saturday availability are highly valued, and there may be opportunities to grow your teaching schedule over time.
Compensation
$22.00–$34.00 per hour, based on teaching experience, musical background, qualifications, ability to connect with students, and availability.
Required training, department meetings, and curriculum-development work are paid.
