Full Job Description

Equity Staffing Group is seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Phlebotomist to join a busy outpatient laboratory team in Boston, MA. In this role, you will provide high-quality specimen collection and laboratory support while delivering exceptional patient care. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment, enjoys interacting with patients, and is committed to accuracy, safety, and teamwork.

As a Phlebotomist, you will:

Collect blood specimens using venipuncture, finger sticks, heel sticks, and other collection methods appropriate for patient needs.
Collect non-blood specimens including urine, sputum, throat swabs, and throat cultures.
Verify patient identity and laboratory test requisitions to ensure accurate specimen collection and labeling.
Prepare and organize collection equipment and supplies for laboratory procedures.
Help patients feel comfortable by explaining collection procedures and answering questions.
Label, date, time, accession, and process specimens for laboratory testing while maintaining accurate documentation.
Perform specimen processing and computer-based laboratory functions related to test orders and specimen tracking.
Maintain daily collection logs and documentation.
Answer general questions regarding laboratory collections and test orders while routing calls appropriately.
Perform waived or moderately complex laboratory testing, including quality control, instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting as applicable.
Assist with EKG testing and Holter monitor placement, patient education, quality control, and processing when required.
Participate in proficiency testing and ensure compliance with laboratory quality standards.
Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked laboratory work area.
Support front desk and reception functions, including greeting patients and providing collection instructions as needed.
Perform clerical duties including filing, maintaining records, and tracking specimen volumes.
Assist in training new employees and student interns when assigned.
Support specimen processing and laboratory testing across various clinical areas.
Follow all laboratory policies, quality assurance procedures, infection prevention protocols, and safety standards.
Utilize proper PPE and sharps safety procedures while handling biohazardous materials.
Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, providers, and leadership regarding workflow and technical issues.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, or TASC) from an accredited institution, or an equivalent internationally recognized credential.
Ability to perform specimen collection with accuracy and professionalism.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Basic computer proficiency and ability to accurately document patient information.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a clinical team.

Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who stand out will have:

Previous phlebotomy or laboratory experience.
Experience in an outpatient or physician practice laboratory.
Knowledge of specimen processing and laboratory workflows.
Experience performing waived laboratory testing, EKGs, or Holter monitor placement.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a patient-centered approach.
Dependability, flexibility, and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
