Full Job Description

Job Overview
We’re looking for a compassionate, experienced leader to join our team as Clinical Director! In this role, you’ll guide and support our dedicated staff, oversee high-quality, client-centered care for individuals with substance use and co-occurring disorders, and help shape programs that truly make a difference. You’ll work closely with medical and administrative teams, ensuring we stay compliant while fostering a positive, collaborative environment. If you’re passionate about helping others and ready to lead with heart and vision, we’d love to meet you.

Duties

1. Regulatory & Quality Oversight

Develop, review, and maintain clinical policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Ensure compliance with New Jersey licensure standards (e.g., N.J.A.C. 10:161B) and accreditation requirements (JCAHO, etc.).
Oversee implementation of evidence-based treatment practices and ensure continuous quality improvement.

2. Clinical Leadership & Supervision

Provide and document weekly clinical supervision to counselors, interns, and licensed staff, both individually and in groups.
Supervise hiring, onboarding, credentialing, and evaluation of clinical personnel.
Ensure proper development and execution of individual treatment plans, including for clients with co-occurring disorders.

3. Clinical Service Management

Oversee delivery of all clinical services to ensure adherence to treatment plans and agency standards.
May carry a small clinical caseload (individual and/or group therapy) to remain engaged in direct care.
Audit client records to ensure documentation is complete, timely, and meets regulatory standards.

4. Program Development & Evaluation

Design, implement, and update clinical programs, group curricula, and therapeutic approaches.
Define, monitor, and report on clinical key performance indicators (e.g., retention, completion, relapse rates).
Evaluate program effectiveness and make adjustments based on outcomes and best practices.

5. Organizational & Administrative Tasks

Collaborate on budgeting and allocation of resources for clinical services.
Assist with insurance credentialing, billing compliance, and utilization reviews.
Prepare reports for executive leadership, boards, or stakeholders on clinical operations and outcomes.

6. Collaboration & Coordination

Work closely with medical staff (e.g., Medical Director, nurses) to ensure integrated care, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT).
Develop and maintain relationships with external service providers (vocational, educational, healthcare) through formal agreements.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support a coordinated approach to client care.

7. Staff Development & Morale

Provide mentoring, professional development, and training opportunities for clinical staff.
Observe therapy sessions, offer feedback, and intervene in clinical crises as needed.
Foster positive team dynamics and address performance or morale concerns among staff.
Ensure compliance with New Jersey licensure standards (e.g., N.J.A.C. 10:161B) and accreditation requirements (CARF, JCAHO, etc.).
Oversee implementation of evidence-based treatment practices and ensure continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications

At least 3–5 years of direct clinical experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.
At least 1–3 years of supervisory or management experience, preferably in an outpatient or similar setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of New Jersey state regulations for licensed SUD facilities (N.J.A.C. 10:161B).
Active New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in good standing.
Certification as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) or equivalent (preferred, but not always required).
Proficiency with evidence-based practices for SUD and co-occurring disorders (e.g., CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care).
Familiarity with medication-assisted treatment (MAT) approaches and integration of medical and behavioral care.
Solid understanding of clinical documentation standards, including treatment planning, progress notes, and regulatory compliance.
Experience with quality assurance, audits, and accreditation processes (e.g., CARF, JCAHO).
Strong leadership, team-building, and staff development skills.
Excellent communication, organizational, and conflict resolution abilities.
Comfort with data-driven decision-making, program evaluation, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
Competence with electronic health record (EHR) systems and general office technology. KIPU experience a plus
