Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and dynamic Director of Food Services to lead our comprehensive food management operations within a healthcare environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in food service management, dietary department oversight, and clinical nutrition, with a strong commitment to ensuring the highest standards of food safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. This leadership role demands strategic vision, team management expertise, and a passion for enhancing patient well-being through nutritious and appealing meal services.
Primary function.
Directs and manages all areas of the Nutritional Services Department to ensure efficient operations and quality standards in the production of all food services provided.
Duties and responsibilities
- Directs areas of accountability through strategic planning and review of department operations to insure efficiently and effectiveness.
- Meets with department management to discuss and monitor operations, which may include problem solving, planning, and reviewing goals.
- Develops and approves department policies and procedures to insure consistent and accurate processing.
- Monitors service levels to insure they are achieved and maintained. Directs staff to carry out the plan of care for patients, including age specific needs.
- Oversee business operations including purchasing, inventory, monthly statistics and ensures safe food handling.
- Plans and coordinates menus for patients, cafeteria, special functions and catering events. Maintains standardized recipes.
- Manages equipment use and maintenance. Schedules and keeps records of routine preventative maintenance of equipment.
- Performs all aspects of patients’ nutritional care to meet established guidelines and regulations.
- Screens and assesses patients for nutritional care to meet established guidelines and regulations.
- Attends and participates in patient care conferences as scheduled.
- Consults with physician regarding special nutritional needs.
- Recruits and develops a qualified and productive workforce.
- Develops and maintains job descriptions.
- Recruits effectively for department positions by following established hiring practices and guidelines
- Orientates new employees in a thorough manner to department and organization.
- Provides training to department staff in an appropriate and thorough manner.
- Offer educational opportunities to support continued development of staff through in-service training, education programs, on-line education, seminars, and literature.
- Monitors and verifies the compliance of staff in regard to maintaining required licenses and certifications, as applicable.
- Performs employee relations functions effectively to promote a positive work environment, influence retention and enhance communication.
- Works with department management to ensure effectiveness in the application of employee relations within their areas of accountability.
- Communicates effectively and provides feedback to staff which may include department meetings, individual meetings or rounding, etc.
- Addresses employee issues in an effective timely manner. Completes documentation thoroughly and accurately.
- Communicates with COO and HR regarding employee issues appropriately in an effort to obtain guidance and reduce potential organizational liability.
- Enforces and interprets policies and procedures with employees, as necessary.
- Develops work schedules for staff and delegates work assignments as needed.
- Administer annual performance appraisal process for staff.
- Manages department financial operations effectively.
- Maintains, develops, and reports budget, capital expenditure planning, and strategic planning for responsible areas.
- Monitors individual department budgets and expenses on a monthly basis.
- Maintains timekeeping records and updates appropriately and accurately for department staff.
- Coordinates department purchases with committed contracts for vest value purchases.
- Performs all aspects of position in a compliant manner, following all applicable state and federal regulations.
- Understands and enforces related regulations and laws which govern the performance of the services being provided, which includes employment law.
- Maintains current knowledge of laws, regulations, and current events that may impact work produced.
- Considers the impact of regulations in work that is produced and discusses concerns with COO appropriately to ensure compliance.

- Maintain credentials. Enhances professional growth through continuing education opportunities.
- Interprets diet manual and communicates with medical staff for annual approval.
- Completes nutritional analysis of menus and maintains record proof for survey regulations.
- Participates and monitors activities related to continuous performance improvements.
- Reviews department services to assure quality food services are provided and safety and sanitation standards are meet.
- Reviews nutritional services provided to assure the nutritional needs are completed.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- Completion of an approved course for certification by the Dietary Managers Association.
- OR Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association Or Associates Degree in Dietetics or Food Systems Management.
- Has Documented evidence of annual continuing education.
- Experience in hospital, institutional or restaurant cooking and/or management preferred.
- Ability to work well with all levels of staff and have a good communication skill.
- Ability to read, speak, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English.
- Flexible, self-motivated and well organized with a positive mental attitude.
Working conditions
Work in a office and kitchen/cafeteria environment coming into contact with a variety of individuals. May experience constant interruptions.
Physical requirements
Considerable physical activity. May require handling of objects that can weigh up to 50lbs. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
Pay: $64,670.00 - $84,684.00 per year
