Cabinet Maker – Custom Cabinetry
JC Huffman Cabinetry | Fairfield, Iowa
JC Huffman Cabinetry is looking for an experienced, skilled Cabinet Maker to join our team. We build high-quality custom cabinetry, and we are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in their craft and wants to be part of a company where quality matters.
This is an excellent opportunity for the right person—but we are looking for more than someone who can simply follow instructions.
We want someone who thinks.
The ideal candidate looks ahead, understands how one step affects the next, catches potential problems before they become expensive mistakes, and isn't afraid to ask questions when something doesn't look right. We value employees who take ownership of their work and approach each project with the mindset, “Is this right, and is there a better way to do it?”
Responsibilities
- Build custom cabinetry and millwork according to shop drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Measure, cut, machine, assemble, and prepare cabinet components accurately.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, plans, dimensions, and specifications.
- Operate woodworking machinery, power tools, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Assemble cabinet boxes, face frames, doors, drawers, panels, and other components.
- Install hinges, drawer slides, hardware, and related components.
- Inspect your own work throughout the building process rather than relying on someone else to catch mistakes.
- Think ahead and identify potential fit, construction, material, or installation issues before they become problems.
- Verify measurements, materials, and components before proceeding when something doesn't appear correct.
- Communicate questions or concerns early instead of continuing with work that may need to be redone.
- Maintain a high standard of craftsmanship, accuracy, fit, and finish.
- Work efficiently while maintaining quality and attention to detail.
- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Work cooperatively with other members of our production team to keep projects moving.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and handling cabinetry and materials when needed.
- Follow company safety procedures and proper equipment operation.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has cabinetmaking, woodworking, finish carpentry, or similar experience.
- Understands that quality and efficiency go hand in hand.
- Has strong attention to detail and takes pride in doing things correctly.
- Can work independently without needing constant supervision.
- Is mechanically inclined and comfortable working with measurements and drawings.
- Has good problem-solving skills and uses common sense.
- Takes ownership of mistakes and helps find solutions.
- Is dependable and understands that the rest of the production process relies on everyone doing their part.
- Is willing to learn our processes and continuously improve their skills.
- Understands that asking a question before making a mistake is always better than fixing the mistake afterward.
The Person Who Will Succeed Here
You don't have to know everything on your first day. You do need to be someone who pays attention, wants to learn, and thinks about what you're doing.
If you notice something doesn't line up, stop and figure out why.
If a measurement doesn't make sense, verify it.
If you see a potential problem coming, speak up before it becomes a problem.
And if there's a better way to accomplish something, we want to hear about it.
We appreciate employees who bring solutions—not just problems.
Why JC Huffman Cabinetry?
At JC Huffman Cabinetry, you aren't producing the same cabinet over and over on an assembly line. Our work is custom, which means every project presents something a little different.
That makes this a great opportunity for a skilled craftsperson who enjoys building, problem-solving, and seeing a project come together from drawings and raw materials into finished cabinetry.
We take pride in the work that leaves our shop, and we're looking for someone who wants to be able to look at the finished product and say, “I built that.”
If you are dependable, mechanically minded, detail-oriented, and take pride in quality craftsmanship, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply through Indeed with your work history and relevant cabinetmaking, woodworking, or construction experience.
