PRESIDENT JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:The President serves as the chief executive officer of the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce and is responsible for providing strategic leadership, implementing the Chamber's mission, and directing all organizational operations. The President works closely with the Board of Directors, members, community leaders, and staff to strengthen the business environment, foster economic growth, and enhance the overall vitality of the Fairmont area.
Membership Growth and Engagement (25%)
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit, retain, and engage Chamber members.
- Maintain regular contact with members to understand their needs, challenges, and opportunities.
- Establish measurable membership growth and retention goals in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
- Support and strengthen member participation in Chamber programs, events, and committees.
- Work with membership volunteers and ambassadors to enhance member value and engagement.
- Ensure members receive exceptional service and recognize the benefits of Chamber membership.
Strategic Leadership and Program Development (25%)
- Lead implementation of the Chamber's strategic plan and annual program of work.
- Assess business and community needs and recommend initiatives that support economic growth and member success.
- Collaborate with committees, task forces, and community partners to achieve organizational goals.
- Evaluate Chamber programs, services, and events to ensure effectiveness and alignment with member needs.
- Identify opportunities for innovation, partnerships, and new revenue streams.
- Provide leadership in community planning initiatives that impact local businesses and economic development.
Community Relations, Advocacy, and Public Affairs (20%)
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of the Chamber.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with local, regional, and state business leaders, elected officials, and community organizations.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote a strong business climate and economic development.
- Represent the Chamber at community meetings, public events, and professional organizations.
- Promote the Chamber's mission through public relations, marketing, media, and community outreach efforts.
Board Relations and Governance (15%)
- Serve as the chief advisor to the Board of Directors.
- Assist the Board in establishing strategic goals, policies, and priorities.
- Prepare agendas, reports, and supporting materials for Board and Executive Committee meetings.
- Ensure Board policies and directives are implemented effectively.
- Provide relevant information and recommendations to support Board decision-making.
- Facilitate leadership development and Board orientation efforts.
Financial and Organizational Management (15%)
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget for Board approval.
- Ensure sound financial management practices and stewardship of Chamber resources.
- Monitor revenue and expenses to achieve organizational goals and maintain financial sustainability.
- Oversee fundraising, sponsorship development, grant opportunities, and revenue-generating programs.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and reporting requirements.
- Oversee office operations, technology, facilities, and administrative functions.
- Recruit, supervise, develop, and evaluate Chamber staff.
- Foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Public Administration, Marketing, Economic Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership, management, or executive-level experience.
- Demonstrated experience in budget management and organizational operations.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Proven ability to build relationships with businesses, community leaders, volunteers, and public officials.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred
- Chamber of Commerce, association, nonprofit, economic development, or community leadership experience.
- Experience in membership development, fundraising, sponsorship sales, or business development.
- Experience working with boards of directors and volunteer leadership structures.
- Knowledge of local government, public policy, and economic development initiatives.
Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
