JOB TITLE: Speech Language Pathologist

SALARY: According to placement on current salary schedule

All employees are eligible for participation in the Colorado Public Employees Retirement Account, PERA.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9-month position

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with established guidelines or procedures and the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Licensed Personnel

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education, Assistant Director of Special Education, and Principal SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

1. Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology

Experience:

1. Demonstrates successful entry level professional skills for providing service to

individuals birth through 21

Certificates/Licenses:

1. Colorado Special Services Provider License with endorsement 0-12 Speech Language Pathologist

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

1. Demonstrates effective organizational, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
2. Demonstrates punctuality and good attendance
3. Complies with all policies, practices, and procedures, including proper use of equipment
4. Reports all unsafe conditions/activities to supervisor, Human Resources, or Risk Management 5. Demonstrates aptitude and interest for the work to be performed
6. Follows appropriate District policies, procedures, and directives

8. Demonstrates confidentiality as related to job
9. Develops and maintains professional working relations with students, parents, employees, and patrons of the District
10. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with staff members, parents, patrons, and other professionals
11. Responds effectively to multiple responsibilities and ambiguous demands
12. Provides own transportation for the purpose of conducting District business
13. Continual compliance with regulations, rules, or statutes related to Colorado State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Colorado Department of Education, and Colorado State Law

JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Keeps daily records, writes progress reports, and prepares other notes and correspondence. 2. Assesses, evaluates, and alters the current and anticipated school environments to accommodate the individual’s disabilities.
3. May participate on Response to Intervention (RTI) team

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Serves as a resource to school staff members and provides in-service in the development of a balanced program for speech communication and speech improvement
2. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments

3. Evaluates student progress on a regular basis

4. Provides screening to identify speech language disabled children at regular intervals and at specified levels
5. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate

6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the District’s philosophy of education
and instructional goals
7. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
8. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
8. Keeps thorough, on-going records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school provided hearing services as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulations
9. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services
10. Performs tasks at sites throughout the District and elsewhere, and participates in meetings and other activities as requested by supervisor
11. Provides information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate
12. Assumes responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies as requested by supervisor
13. Participates in on-going staff development to stay current in field
14. Maintains records and completes all information necessary for the District data management system or required by state and federal agencies
15. Participates in the planning of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) including present levels of functioning and formation of annual goal and services
16. Participates in the planning of a 504 Plan, including services, if appropriate
17. Models an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion
18. Incorporates legal rights and due process for children with special needs
19. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner
20. Demonstrates a positive attitude towards change
21. Performs such other tasks as may, from time to time, be assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met
by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Certain positions within the District may impose additional physical demands. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; reach with hands and arms; taste and smell; and talk and hear. The employee may also need to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to exert average or above average physical effort in the Center Based Special Education programs.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to inclement weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally loud.
