The Role
The Engineering Manager is a pivotal dual-role position at Water Street Brass, responsible for both leading our engineering team and managing the design and manufacturing engineering functions. This role combines technical leadership with strategic planning to drive innovation, efficiency, and excellence across all projects. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep technical expertise along with proven management capabilities to elevate our engineering practices and ensure our designs meet the high standards of our luxury brand.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Mentor, lead, and manage the engineering team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Develop and implement comprehensive engineering strategies, goals, and objectives aligned with the company’s vision and business priorities.
- Oversee the planning, design, development, testing, and implementation of engineering projects to ensure timely, budget-conscious, and high-quality delivery.
- Direct resource allocation, budgeting, and scheduling for engineering initiatives while ensuring effective cross-departmental coordination.
- Work collaboratively with Procurement and Supply Chain to establish strategic relationships that secure high-quality raw materials and components.
- Ensure all engineering processes adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Continuously evaluate and enhance engineering workflows, tools, and methodologies to drive efficiency and quality improvements.
- Identify training needs, support professional development, and lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts within the engineering team.
- Monitor project progress, prepare detailed status reports, and communicate technical and operational challenges to senior management.
- Research and adopt emerging technologies and materials pertinent to solid brass decorative hardware manufacturing to drive continuous innovation.
- Create, update, and maintain accurate 3D models and technical drawings for solid brass hardware products using industry-standard software such as SolidWorks.
- Partner with production, quality assurance, and marketing teams to ensure designs are manufacturable, meet aesthetic and quality benchmarks, and address market needs.
- Define and specify materials, finishes, and construction methods that align with the luxury aesthetic and meet rigorous quality standards.
- Support the development and testing of prototypes to validate the form, fit, and function of new designs.
- Engineer precision tooling, fixtures, and jigs to enhance production efficiency, ensure product consistency, and reduce manufacturing costs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- 5-7 years of progressive engineering experience, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop high-performance engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) coupled with a robust understanding of brass manufacturing techniques.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a keen ability to solve complex problems while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and perform effectively under pressure.
