Full Job Description

USN is seeking experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses (ICU RNs) for high-acuity critical care assignments supporting complex Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, and Oncology ICU patient populations. This opportunity is ideal for seasoned critical care nurses with advanced hemodynamic monitoring experience who are comfortable managing some of the most complex patients in the hospital setting.

As a Travel ICU RN, you'll provide specialized care for critically ill patients requiring advanced cardiac monitoring, renal replacement therapy, ventilator support, oncology care, and complex critical care interventions. You'll collaborate with intensivists, surgeons, oncologists, respiratory therapists, nephrologists, and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver exceptional patient outcomes in fast-paced, high-acuity environments.

About the Role

This position combines traditional ICU care responsibilities with specialized experience in Medical ICU (MICU), Surgical ICU (SICU), and Oncology Critical Care.

The ideal candidate must be comfortable caring for critically ill patients with:

Respiratory failure
Severe infections and sepsis
Pneumonia
Oncology-related complications
Neutropenia
Blood transfusion requirements
Post-surgical critical care patients
ENT and flap reconstruction patients
Complex hemodynamic instability

This assignment requires nurses who can independently manage advanced ICU equipment and therapies while providing expert bedside critical care.

Key Responsibilities

Critical Care Nursing

Provide comprehensive care for critically ill adult patients in ICU settings
Perform detailed patient assessments and continuous monitoring
Interpret hemodynamic, cardiac, respiratory, and neurological data
Manage ventilators and advanced respiratory therapies
Administer medications, vasoactive drips, blood products, and IV infusions
Respond rapidly to changes in patient condition and emergent events
Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary care teams on individualized treatment plans

Specialized ICU Responsibilities

Manage oncology patients experiencing neutropenia and treatment-related complications
Administer and monitor blood transfusions
Care for patients with respiratory failure, severe infections, and pneumonia
Monitor and support medical and general surgical ICU populations
Care for ENT and flap reconstruction patients
Assist with invasive procedures and advanced monitoring techniques

Advanced Critical Care Technologies

Candidates must demonstrate independent proficiency with:

NxStage CRRT/CVVH
Machine setup
Circuit management
Troubleshooting
Disconnecting and therapy management
Pulmonary Artery Catheters (Swan-Ganz Catheters)
Transvenous Pacemakers
Advanced cardiac monitoring systems
Mechanical ventilation management

Documentation & Quality Care

Document patient care accurately using EMR/EHR systems such as Epic and Cerner
Maintain compliance with HIPAA and hospital standards
Follow infection prevention and patient safety protocols
Participate in interdisciplinary rounding and care planning
Provide education and support to patients and families

Minimum Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum of 2 years of recent ICU experience
Current BLS certification
Current ACLS certification
Strong critical care assessment and clinical decision-making skills
Experience caring for high-acuity ICU patients
Ability to work effectively in fast-paced critical care environments
