Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mason Tender / Masonry Helper to join a construction team on active new construction brick masonry projects. This is a physically demanding, safety-sensitive position that requires previous hands-on experience supporting bricklayers and masonry crews.
The ideal candidate will have experience working for a masonry contractor, be comfortable working on hanging scaffolding, and possess the required safety certifications to work on NYC construction sites.
This is NOT an entry-level position. Only candidates with direct masonry experience will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist bricklayers with all phases of brick masonry construction.
- Supply bricks, blocks, mortar, tools, and materials to masons throughout the workday.
- Mix mortar and cement to required specifications.
- Prepare and maintain masonry work areas.
- Work safely on hanging scaffolding, supported scaffolds, and elevated work platforms.
- Clean masonry surfaces, tools, equipment, and job sites before, during, and after work.
- Stock materials and keep the work area organized for maximum productivity.
- Load, unload, and transport masonry materials throughout the job site.
- Follow instructions from foremen and bricklayers to maintain workflow.
- Follow all OSHA regulations and site-specific safety procedures.
- Perform other masonry labor duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Mason Tender, Masonry Helper, or Masonry Laborer.
- Experience supporting bricklayers on new construction projects.
- Experience with:
- Brickwork
- Mixing mortar and cement
- Supplying bricks and masonry materials
- Cleaning masonry work areas
- Working on hanging scaffolding
- Previous employment with a masonry contractor.
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong knowledge of masonry job site safety and construction practices.
- Reliable transportation and excellent attendance.
Required Certifications
Candidates must possess the certifications required to work on NYC construction sites:
- OSHA 30 Construction (preferred; OSHA 10 may be considered if accompanied by SST requirements)
- NYC SST Worker Card (40-Hour Site Safety Training)
- Any additional site-specific safety certifications required by the project
Preferred Skills
- Experience with commercial or multi-family residential masonry construction.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a masonry crew.
- Familiarity with construction tools and masonry equipment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Important Notice
This is a high-risk construction position requiring prior masonry experience. Candidates must have hands-on experience working with bricklayers and masonry crews. Applicants without masonry or mason tender experience will not be considered. Candidates must also possess the required OSHA and NYC SST certifications before beginning work.
Pay: $21.00 - $33.00 per hour
