Full Job Description

The Forensic Interviewer/Advocate uses both research-based interview protocols and techniques to consistent with the NCA standards and process to conduct child interviews as well as take on the role as a victim support and family advocate to anticipate and respond to the specific needs of the family and child more effectively.

This role also actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and peer review. The Forensic Interviewer/Advocate is also expected to accomplish all required documentation of the interviews and provide court testimony for interviews performed, as well as accurately document all advocacy services for families that utilize advocacy at the Center. In both roles, the Forensic Interviewer/Advocate represents the RRCAC in a positive light at all times and upholds the mission and standards of the RRCAC, including maintaining ethical and confidential practices when working in any capacity

The RRCAC provides forensic interviews for children up to the age of 18 years of age and vulnerable adults regarding allegations of sexual abuse, physical abuse or as a witness to a violent crime; documents a summary of interview results; testifies in civil and criminal court; and leads the multidisciplinary team. This position also engages the multidisciplinary team with regard to follow up services for the child victim of maltreatment and his or her family.

Responsibilities:

Forensic Interviewer

Conduct forensic interviews for children and vulnerable adults utilizing nationally accredited protocols
Facilitate pre-and post-interview conferences with professionals and families
Summarize interview findings in a succinct and professional written manner, primarily through the use of Trak case management system
Support the Grand Forks and Devils Lake site locations by traveling and conducting forensic interviewers or advocacy as needed and scheduled by the MDT
Consistently demonstrate professional behavior and leadership skills that are in support of the vision, mission, and philosophy of the RRCAC
Maintain and update case files and database
Keep informed of current research surrounding child maltreatment issues and participate in training
Attend peer review on a local, state, regional and national level
Represent the RRCAC in fundraising initiatives and community outreach as needed
Assist in the accreditation process, which may include the leading reviews of RRCAC protocols and practices and coordinating the multidisciplinary team’s efforts when called upon
Perform other tasks and responsibilities as requested to assist with the operations of the RRCAC

Victim Advocate

Provide Victim Advocacy for interviews provided by other Forensic Interviewers by connecting with caregiver’s pre-interview and providing support during and post-interview, including providing resources, emotional and moral support, completing referrals, and education
Administer a mental health screening with every child interviewed for any necessary crisis management and intervention, safety planning, and risk assessment.
Assess children and families for specific developmental and cultural considerations
Consistently provide support to the family through follow-up support post-interview, keeping them informed of case updates, and completing any needed victims’ services (ex. Crime Victim compensation)
Management of processes and procedures that support the services offered to children and families
Attend ongoing professional development and trainings including state peer review

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work/related field required
Experience in working with children and families
A background check will be completed prior to the final offer of employment
Maintain required education, certifications, and validations for this position

Preferred Additional Skills:

Clinical interviewing and assessment skills
Knowledge of sexual abuse and other forms of maltreatment and its impact on children
Knowledge of child development stages and a demonstrated ability to utilize this knowledge to communicate with children
Ability to communicate with a wide range of children from different cultural backgrounds
Knowledge of child protection, police and court systems, experience working with diverse professionals.
Ability to handle routine office computer tasks, including managing data systems and creating data reports
High level of emotional resilience with healthy stress-management skills

Pay: From $26.00 per hour
