Description & Details: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at North Dakota State University invites applications for a 9-month non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice position to start in December 2026. Upon satisfactory performance this position is renewable and eligible for promotion to Associate and Full Professor of Practice. The position is 80% teaching and 20% scholarly activity and service. Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Resources will be provided for travel, professional development, and course development. This position is eligible for full benefits and paid faculty developmental leave. The successful applicant will teach a 3/2 didactic load (5 classes per year) and manage laboratory courses supervising teaching assistants. Teaching duties could include developing and teaching general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, and/or upper level chemistry and biochemistry courses based on experience.
Scholarly activity and service could include advising undergraduate research projects, advising students interested in chemistry and/or biochemistry, serving on department, college and university committees, collaborating on research and professional development about teaching and learning, development of novel curricular materials or modules, working on science outreach or student recruitment, or other activities as approved by the Department Chair.
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week
Hiring Range: $70,000-75,000
Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have: 1) An earned PhD by the time of appointment in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field from an accredited institution; 2) evidence of a commitment to teaching and student learning at the undergraduate level; 3) demonstrated relevant research experience; 4) effective oral and written communication skills; and 5) demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion through engagement in teaching, professional development, or extra-curricular activities.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in 1) teaching courses in one of the following areas at the undergraduate or graduate level: general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry; 2) research experience in one or more of the following areas: chemistry or biochemistry; 3) developing lab courses; 4) serving as instructor of record; 5) ability to teach Analytical Chemistry; and 6) using student-centered pedagogies.
