About the Role
Are you a digital-first storyteller with a sharp pulse on local news and regional issues? We aren't looking for traditional newsroom press-release rewrites—we are looking for a News Content Curator & On-Air Host who understands what makes news truly valuable and knows how to package it for web, social, and broadcast platforms.
In this role, your primary mission is to curate, package, and elevate high-value news content (audio, video, and text) across our digital channels. In addition to driving our digital news product, you will host a daily 1-hour midday radio program covering the top headlines of the day and deliver concise local broadcast updates.
Key Responsibilities1. News Content Curation & Digital Production
- Spot High-Value News: Track daily broadcast programming, interviews, and regional developments to catch high-impact news moments, key guest insights, and breaking updates.
- Multi-Format News Packaging: Transform broadcast highlights into complete digital news packages:
- Audio: Cut and polish audio clips of key quotes and interviews for on-demand listening.
- Video: Edit engaging video segments for web embedding and social media platforms.
- News Articles: Draft sharp, concise 3–5 paragraph write-ups using modern digital tools to accompany media assets.
- Editorial Angle Framing: Apply fresh news angles and strong, accurate headlines to keep digital content engaging across multi-platform touchpoints.
- Digital Publishing: Build formatted, media-rich posts on station websites and distribute standout clips across social channels to drive audience traffic.
2. On-Air Hosting & Broadcast
- Midday Radio Program: The right candidate will also host an engaging 1-hour midday radio show showcasing the day's top local and regional news stories, conversations, and updates.
- Hourly Newscasts: Produce and deliver 90-second local news updates that actively feature curated highlights from our on-air broadcasts.
Qualifications & Background
- News Judgment & Regional Awareness: Strong interest in local news, community issues, and regional topics with solid editorial instincts.
- Digital Media Experience: Background in digital content creation, media production, social media management, or podcasting. A traditional news/journalism degree is not required, but keen news sense is essential.
- Audio & Video Editing: Proficiency with digital editing software to quickly cut, clean, and export short-form video and audio clips.
- Tech-Savvy Workflow: Comfortable using modern content creation software and CMS platforms to publish fast, high-quality digital assets.
- Sharp Writing: Ability to craft clear, accurate news summaries with engaging headlines that fit modern web standards.
- On-Air Presence: Clear, confident, and conversational broadcast style on the microphone.
