About Fargo Woodworks
We build heirloom-grade custom furniture for executive offices, conference rooms, and high-end homes — conference tables, executive desks, reception desks, and sideboards built to last generations. Everything is built by hand, to order, in our Fargo shop and shipped nationwide. We compete on craftsmanship, not price. The standard is permanence.
The Role
This is an ownership role, not a task role. You'll own our sideboards and reception desks from plan to finished product — two of our most detailed, multi-department builds. You plan it, you coordinate it through the shop, you deliver it. When a project is behind, it's on you to get it moving again.
These pieces move through milling, epoxy, CNC, sanding, finishing, paint, joinery, and assembly. Your job is to keep parts flowing through every one of those stages so nothing sits and nothing waits. Because a build can take up to two weeks, you'll always be running several projects at once at different stages — early prep, in production, ready to assemble, and final assembly — so the pipeline never goes empty.
We're looking for a builder who can also lead the work: someone who plans ahead, knows where every part is at all times, chases down what's stuck, and drives projects across the finish line without being told to.
What You'll Own
- Planning each build immediately — full parts list, every step, every department identified
- Getting everything moving early: milling, epoxy, and CNC queued so parts never sit idle
- Coordinating the shop across milling, epoxy, CNC, sanding, finishing, and paint
- Knowing where every part is, what stage it's in, and what it needs next
- Staying ahead of assembly so all parts are ready when it's time to build
- Joinery, assembly, hardware installation, and final details
- Running multiple projects at different stages at the same time
- Pushing every project to completion — and escalating the moment something is blocked
The Standard
- Complete 3–4 projects per week, each finished within about two weeks
- Keep every project moving forward every day — no half-built pieces sitting
- Own the outcome from start to finish; don't wait for direction
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of professional experience in either custom furniture making or cabinetmaking (paid shop experience — not hobby or home-shop work)
- Proven ability to build clean casework and joinery to tight tolerances
- Strong planning and organization — you can manage several builds at once and keep them all moving
- Self-starter who takes ownership, anticipates problems, and pushes work to completion without being managed
- Comfortable reading shop drawings and cut lists and working independently from them
- Proficient with standard shop machinery — table saw, jointer, planer, band saw, router, CNC, sanders — and hand tools
- Reliable, on-time, and able to work full-time on-site in Fargo
Nice to Have
- Experience coordinating work across multiple stages or departments in a production or made-to-order shop
- Door and drawer construction, hardware installation, epoxy/CNC, and finishing prep
- Familiarity with hardwoods, veneers, and sheet goods
Compensation & Schedule
- Full-time, hourly: $22-$28/hour based on experience
- On-site at our Fargo, ND shop, standard weekday hours
- Paid time off, Health Insurance
