Lead Carpenter / Deck Crew Leader
$35–$40/hr | Full-Time | Faribault, MN
Decked Out MN is looking for an experienced Lead Carpenter / Crew Leader to take ownership of one of our deck-building crews.
We're looking for someone who already knows how to build, can lead a small crew, takes pride in their work, and doesn't need someone standing over their shoulder telling them what comes next.
If you're the carpenter other guys turn to when something needs to be figured out, you're probably the person we want to talk to.
About Decked Out MN
Decked Out MN is an established southern Minnesota deck contractor specializing in premium composite and PVC decks, aluminum railing, custom stairs, pergolas, and outdoor living projects.
We've built our reputation by doing quality work, communicating with our customers, doing what we say we're going to do, and standing behind the projects we build.
We believe the details matter—from the structure underneath the deck to the finished product the homeowner sees every day. We use proven products and building methods, take pride in doing things correctly, and expect every project that carries the Decked Out MN name to reflect those standards.
We regularly work with products including Trex decking, Westbury aluminum railing, KDAT framing lumber, Diamond Pier and helical pier footings, and other professional-grade materials.
We're growing, and we're looking for an experienced carpenter who wants to take ownership of a crew, build projects they're proud of, and become an important part of where Decked Out MN goes next.
The Position
This is a working Lead Carpenter position.
You'll work alongside and lead a small crew building residential deck and outdoor living projects throughout southern Minnesota.
We'll provide the plans, project scope, materials, tools, equipment, and expectations. Your job is to take ownership in the field.
You should be able to look at the plans and scope, understand what we're building, lay out the project, organize the crew, plan ahead, and keep the job moving efficiently while maintaining our standards.
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Lead and work alongside a 2–3 person crew
- Read plans, dimensions, and project scopes
- Lay out projects accurately
- Build footings, posts, beams, ledgers, and deck framing
- Install composite,PVC, and wood decking
- Lay out and build stairs
- Install aluminum railing systems
- Complete detailed finish work
- Plan ahead for upcoming phases of the project
- Keep the crew productive and the project moving
- Maintain an organized, safe, and professional jobsite
- Identify problems before they turn into expensive mistakes
- Communicate when questions, changes, or unexpected conditions come up
- Take care of company tools, equipment, and materials
- Treat our customers, their homes, and their property with respect
- Help teach and develop less-experienced members of the crew
- Make sure the finished project meets Decked Out MN standards
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with strong residential carpentry experience who is ready to take responsibility for the entire job—not just their individual task.
Deck-building experience is strongly preferred, but we're also interested in talking with experienced residential framers and carpenters who have strong leadership skills and want to specialize in high-quality deck construction.
You don't need to know every product or system we install on your first day. We can teach products.
What we need is someone who already understands construction, can think through problems, and cares about getting things right.
The right person:
- Takes pride in their craftsmanship
- Has strong residential framing and carpentry skills
- Understands structural layout
- Can confidently lay out and build stairs
- Can read plans and work accurately from dimensions
- Knows how to lead people and keep a crew productive
- Thinks ahead instead of waiting to be told what to do next
- Works efficiently without sacrificing quality
- Notices when something doesn't look right
- Communicates instead of guessing or hiding mistakes
- Shows up reliably and ready to work
- Takes care of tools and equipment
- Keeps an organized jobsite
- Understands that we're working at someone's home and represents the company accordingly
What We Offer
- $35–$40/hour based on experience and ability
- Full-time employment
- Consistent work
- Primarily Monday–Friday schedule
- Start and end the workday at our Faribault location.
- Crew transportation from the shop to our jobsites
- Well-equipped work van, tools, and equipment for the crew
- A small crew you can actually lead
- Quality materials and professional-grade products
- Projects focused on decks and outdoor living—not random handyman work
- Clear project scopes and expectations
- An established company with a strong reputation
- Opportunity to grow into a key long-term position as the company continues to grow
Most importantly, we're looking for someone we can trust to take ownership of their projects.
When you've demonstrated that you can run the work, we're going to give you room to do your job. We're not interested in micromanaging a good carpenter.
What Success Looks Like Here
We hand you the plans and scope for a deck.
You understand what we're building.
You organize the crew.
You plan ahead.
You build it correctly.
You keep the project moving.
You communicate when something comes up.
And when the project is finished, you, the customer, and Decked Out MN are proud of what we built.
That's the person we're looking for.
Interested?
Send us your work history and tell us a little about your carpentry experience, the types of projects you've built, and any experience you have leading other carpenters.
Photos of projects you've personally built or led are strongly encouraged.
If you're currently the carpenter people depend on when something needs to get done right—and you're ready for more responsibility and an opportunity where your experience matters—we'd like to talk to you.
