This class is accountable for assisting physician in performing invasive and noninvasive cardiac procedures. Maintains and operates cardiac and radiological equipment in invasive cardiovascular procedures to assist physician in determining cardiac diagnosis and treatment.

SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and on call
Examples of Duties: Positions and immobilizes patient on examining table following specified protocol; may enter technical factors determined by protocol such as amount and quality of radiation beam into computer; raises and lowers examining table and manipulates x-ray tube in response to instructions from physician; starts automatic injection of contrast medium in blood vessels of patient; monitor patients by observing gauges, recorder, and video screens of multi-channel data analysis system that indicates blood pressure, cardiac output and respiration, during imaging of cardiovascular system; alerts physician to changes in patient responses; preceptor students or trainee with assistance from higher grade; performs quantitative coronary analysis, left ventricular function measurement; scrubs in and assists physician in interventional procedures such as, but not limited to, inserting balloon in blood vessels to remove plaque or other blockage; removes intra arterial sheaths post procedure and documents according to protocol; orders supplies and specialty products, interacting with vendors and negotiating pricing under supervision of Cath Lab Supervisor; collects QA/QI data using ACC guidelines; assist in emergency patient care including CPR; test emergency equipment and ensures inventoried supplies are available; provides assistance during emergency as needed; performs other related duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and disease processes; considerable knowledge of the equipment, procedures, techniques, terminology and understanding of cardiac testing; skill in performing mathematical computations; competence, including knowledge and behaviors to meet specific and cultural needs of all patients' age groups; ability to work quickly and accurately under stressful conditions; knowledge of standard clinical laboratory procedures including safety practices; good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; skilled in of basic cardiovascular life support.
Cardiovascular Tech I General Experience and Training: Two (2) years' experience in an Invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory and certification eligible and obtain certification within six months of hire.
Cardiovascular Tech II General Experience and Training: Four (4) years' experience in an Invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory and certification eligible and obtain certification within six months of hire.
Substitution Allowed: Two years' experience in an Invasive cardiac catheterization laboratory and successful completion of an accredited Registered Cardiovascular Program with certification as RCIS or equivalent.
Preferred Requirements: Advance Cardiovascular Life Support.
Working Conditions: Incumbents are exposed to radiation scatter while performing certain aspects of duties, i.e., fluoroscopy, angiographies, and infection communicable diseases; may be exposed to moderately disagreeable conditions; required to lift and position patients; must be able to lift 50 pounds
