At UConn Health, this class is accountable for assisting in the planning, development, administration, and evaluation of pharmacy operations including overseeing daily operations, implementing strategic initiatives, standardizing operational practices, optimizing resources, and advancing pharmacy services in support of organizational goals.
Supervision Received
Works under the administrative supervision of the Director of Pharmacy or designee.
Supervision Exercised
Directs staff of the business unit.
Examples of Duties
Assists in coordinating, planning, and managing pharmacy operations for assigned service areas;
Directs the daily activities of assigned pharmacy managers and staff;
Implements operational goals, priorities, and performance improvement initiatives established by pharmacy leadership;
Develops, standardizes, and evaluates operational workflows and business processes to improve efficiency, productivity, patient access, and customer service;
Monitors operational, financial, quality, and productivity metrics to identify trends and develop and implement corrective action plans;
Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new pharmacy programs, services, and operational initiatives supporting organizational growth;
Collaborate with clinical and operational organizational leaders to coordinate pharmacy operations and improve service delivery;
Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining departmental policies, procedures, and operational standards;
Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, accreditation, payer, and organizational requirements;
Participates in budget planning, resource allocation, productivity management, and financial performance monitoring for assigned operational areas;
Coordinates recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, coaching, performance management, and professional development of assigned staff;
Resolves complex operational, patient, provider, and customer service issues and facilitates timely resolution of operational concerns;
Prepares operational reports, analyses, and recommendations for pharmacy leadership regarding performance, regulatory compliance, resource utilization, and strategic initiatives;
Acts on behalf of the Director in assigned matters as delegated;
Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Considerable knowledge of:
Ambulatory pharmacy operations and pharmacy practice standards
Relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations governing pharmacy practice
Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques
Healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and pharmacy compliance requirements
Quality improvement methodologies
Considerable interpersonal skills
Oral and written communication skills
Organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Ability to lead managers and professional staff, analyze operational and financial data and implement performance improvements, manage multiple priorities in a complex healthcare environment establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, providers, administrators, and interdisciplinary teams.
General Experience
Bachelor's degree or doctorate in pharmacy and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in pharmacy operations.
Special Experience
Two (2) years of General Experience must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
Special Requirements
Incumbents in this class must possess and retain licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Connecticut.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a professional office and healthcare environment and requires use of computer systems and standard office equipment.
Work may involve periods of prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and the ability to review detailed information.
The position may require work beyond normal business hours to meet operational needs.
May be required to travel between UConn Health facilities or practice sites.
Schedule: Full time, 80 hours every two weeks, Monday - Friday, primarily 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, other shifts, weekends, holidays and on-call as assigned, 30-minute unpaid meal break.
