Seasonal Part-Time Prep Cook:

About Us

Sweet Potato Sensations is a family-owned soulful bakery cafe business in Detroit, proudly serving our community since 1987. We specialize in sweet potato-based baked goods and comforting, made-from-scratch meals rooted in tradition, love, and flavor.

Position Overview

We are looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Seasonal Part-Time Prep Cook to join our kitchen team for the holiday season.

This is a temporary seasonal position running through the end of December, with the potential for additional opportunities based on business needs and performance.

The ideal candidate is hardworking, reliable, passionate about food, and comfortable working in a detail oriented environment. As a Prep Cook, you will work with the Lead Prep Cook to help prepare ingredients, support daily food production, and keep our kitchen clean, organized, and running efficiently during one of our busiest times of year.

Responsibilities

Wash, peel, chop, and prepare vegetables and other ingredients, especially sweet potatoes
Follow prep lists, recipes, and kitchen instructions accurately
Assist cooks and bakers with food preparation and product assembly
Properly store, label, and rotate ingredients
Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas and the kitchen
Follow all food safety and sanitation standards
Help support kitchen operations during peak holiday periods and special events
Complete opening and closing duties, including cleaning and restocking
Work efficiently as part of a team while maintaining attention to detail

Qualifications

Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, food service, bakery, or prep role is preferred but not required
Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and prep lists accurately
Reliable, punctual, and dependable
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Comfortable standing for extended periods
Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Strong work ethic and positive attitude
Willingness to learn and take direction
Must be available to work during the holiday season through the end of December
