Full Job Description

Eyes on the Square is a beautiful, modern, upscale, Christian-owned private optometry practice and optical shop on the Downtown Bentonville Square. We are hiring for a full-time role combining front desk receptionist and optician/eyewear consultant.

Pay begins at $18/hr for candidates without prior experience. Raises come as you grow into the role, and our experienced opticians earn well above the starting rate, with our top earners exceeding $30/hr. Opticianry is a genuine career, and we're looking for someone who wants to build one here.

The candidate we’re seeking is someone who is professional, upbeat, and genuinely people-oriented. The kind of person who puts a nervous patient at ease and makes a first-time guest feel looked after. This person needs to be a natural communicator, fashion forward with an eye for style, and able to think on their feet to problem solve. This role requires someone who is organized, detail oriented, and enthusiastic about excellence and learning new things, as extensive on-the-job training will be provided. No eye care experience is required. Sales and retail experience is helpful but not required. We’re looking for great character and a willingness to learn above all else!

This role will be dynamic and will include (but is not limited to):

As an Optometric Receptionist:

Greeting guests
Managing schedules
Pulling insurance benefits (vision and medical)
Communicating with patients via phone, text, fax, email, and occasionally mail
Checking patients in and out
Reviewing paperwork
Ordering contact lenses
Entering in new inventory
Maintain clean and organized work spaces as well as cleaning the office (a team effort)

As an optician/eyewear consultant in training you will work under the direct supervision of our optical manager who will train you to:

Help customers choose the best frames and lenses based on their prescription needs, face shape, style, and lifestyle.
Take and record measurements, adjust, repair, and fit eyewear, and carry out these tasks with accuracy. (Assisted by the latest technologies, such as Optikam)
Verify that finished eyewear meets our standards, as well as customer requests
Educate customers on prescription terminology, lens options, our brands, and product offerings. We have many standardized office verbiages that make this clear, consistent, and concise.
Place, fill, and dispense orders for glasses and contact lenses, while accurately recording all information into electronic health records software (RevolutionEHR).
Problem solve, bounce from one guest to another, and provide consistently excellent customer service to all of our customers/patients.
Apply/calculate insurance benefits/discounts
Submit insurance claims for all eligible optical orders.

Hours & Application Details

Hours (Not Flexible):

Monday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Tuesday: 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Wednesday: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Thursday: 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Closed Saturdays & Sundays

These are our office hours. Staff arrive before we open to prepare for the day, and you'll need to be available to arrive as early as 30 minutes prior. Your specific start time will be set during your first week based on team coverage.

This is a full-time, W2 hourly position capped at 40 hours per week, with a one hour paid lunch Monday through Thursday. No nights, no weekends, no on-call.
