Full Job Description

Overview

Highlands CPA in Denver is a full-service accounting firm licensed in Colorado. We offer a broad range of services for business owners, executives, and independent professionals. As our firm continues to grow, we are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented, experienced Tax Accountant to join our team.

This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about accounting, tax preparation, and client service. You will work closely with senior staff and clients to prepare tax returns, assist with financial planning, and provide key insights. Hedge fund experience is a plus.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, the ability to work independently, and a keen interest in expanding their tax and accounting knowledge. This role will require flexibility during peak seasons and a strong commitment to meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review individual, corporate, partnership, and LLC tax returns
Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end financial statements
Work closely with clients to gather financial data and ensure accurate reporting
Perform account reconciliations, journal entries, and general ledger maintenance
Support tax planning and compliance efforts under the supervision of senior accountants or management
Maintain organized and accurate financial records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
Research tax issues and stay current with tax law changes and reporting requirements
Communicate effectively with clients and internal team members to ensure timely and accurate information flow.
Provide support during audits and other financial reviews
Keep abreast of tax law changes and updates to ensure compliance
Participate in firm-wide meetings, training sessions, and development initiatives
Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule

Tax Season (February - mid-April): Approx. 55-60 hours per week including Saturdays
Off-Season (Remainder of the Year): Monday - Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM, with opportunities to work remotely 1-2 days a week. Also willing to be flexible with employee in off-season with a reduced part time/three-quarter time schedule

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Minimum of 3 years of accounting or tax preparation experience required; experience with a public accounting firm is preferred
Experience preparing business returns including Partnership (1065) & S-Corporation (1120-S) filings
Interest in pursuing CPA licensure or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with tax preparation platforms such as ProSystem fx or Axcess, or similar tools is a plus
Experience with QuickBooks Online and other bookkeeping experience is a plus
Solid understanding of GAAP and foundational tax principles
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn new concepts and systems
High ethical standards and professionalism
Proven problem-solving skills, including the ability to analyze challenges and develop effective solutions.
