This position is primarily in person due to business needs but does have a potential for one day a week to be remote, upon completion of probationary period, team schedules, and ongoing business needs.

This position is eligible for an alternate work schedule and may work either a 4x10 (5:30 - 4:00) or 5x8 (7:00 - 4:00) schedule.

As a passionate criminal justice professional interested in improving pretrial services and addressing disparities, the Pierce County's Clerk of Superior Court has an exciting opportunity for you! As a Pre-Trial Services Case Coordinator, you will have the opportunity to be on the cutting edge of advancing pretrial justice goals such as reducing reliance on jail and helping implement systematic changes that result in more equitable disbursement of pretrial justice. We try to protect the community while reducing racial, economic, cultural, and other disparities in pretrial release decisions.

You will have your own caseload, offering support and removing barriers while assessing risk for those in legal proceedings in Superior Court. You will work with several court-related agencies and community-based agencies to help determine eligibility for those released into the community. This position manages a specialized caseload of individuals with significant and persistent mental health challenges, complex system barriers, and a high need for coordinated care.

How to be Successful in the Role:

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong empathy, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively deescalate heightened situations. This role requires resourcefulness, patience, and a commitment to person-centered engagement. The incumbent will work closely with local behavioral health providers, housing and social-service partners, and community treatment teams to support individuals’ stabilization and continuity of care. Regular collaboration with Forensic Navigators at DSHS is essential to ensure appropriate service linkage, timely competency-related processes, and consistent communication across systems.

Your work as a Case Coordinator 2 will make a meaningful difference in the community by helping individuals return to court, addressing unmet needs, and supporting public safety with accurate, timely, and compassionate service. In this role, you will contribute to stabilizing some of our most vulnerable community members while building strong partnerships with providers, courts, and multidisciplinary teams. This position is more than a job; it is the beginning of a rewarding and impactful career in public service, offering ongoing professional development and pathways for growth within Pierce County.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

Interview, screen, and conduct preliminary investigation of individuals in the county jail and in the office who are allegedly involved in felony, misdemeanor, or other jailable offenses; advise individuals of their possible release from jail.
Use and apply risk assessment tools for the purpose of making an informed recommendation to the court.
Monitor individuals placed on pretrial release by the court; monitor compliance with conditions of the release as set by the court; recommend revocation of pretrial release.

Minimum Qualifications

Additional education or experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or a related field plus
One or more years of progressively responsible experience in criminal justice services to include in-person interviewing, assessment, and monitoring, or any equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
