OR Charge Nurse (RN)

St. Clare Surgical Center is a high-quality, patient-focused ambulatory surgery center providing outpatient surgical services across multiple specialties. We are seeking a skilled and motivated OR Charge Nurse (RN) to lead daily clinical operations and support our perioperative team.

Position Summary

The OR Charge Nurse oversees the daily clinical operations of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant patient care throughout the Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU areas. This role serves as a clinical resource to nursing staff, coordinates daily assignments, supports physicians, and helps maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The Charge Nurse balances leadership responsibilities with direct patient care and promotes a culture of teamwork, patient safety, and clinical excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

Supervise and support clinical nursing staff across Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU.
Coordinate daily staffing assignments based on case volume, patient acuity, and staff competencies.
Promote efficient patient flow, on-time case starts, and timely room turnover.
Serve as the primary clinical resource and point of contact for staff, surgeons, and anesthesia providers.
Assist leadership in maintaining compliance with facility policies, accreditation standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in staff onboarding, training, mentoring, and ongoing development.
Provide performance feedback and support employee engagement initiatives.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care as needed in Pre-Op, Operating Room, and PACU.
Serve as a circulating nurse when needed.
Assist with patient assessments, monitoring, and recovery activities.
Promote patient safety and quality outcomes throughout the surgical experience.
Respond appropriately to emergencies and clinical situations.

Quality & Compliance

Ensure compliance with CMS, OSHA, state regulations, infection prevention standards, and facility policies.
Participate in Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
Complete incident reporting and assist with follow-up investigations as needed.
Support readiness for inspections, surveys, and accreditation reviews.

Operational Support

Assist with inventory management, equipment readiness, and supply oversight.
Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are maintained and available.
Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and administrative staff to promote efficient operations.

QualificationsRequired

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Missouri.
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Minimum 2 years of perioperative nursing experience, including Operating Room experience.
Current BLS Certification.
Strong knowledge of ASC workflows, patient safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication, critical-thinking, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to effectively lead and support a multidisciplinary clinical team.

Preferred

Previous Charge Nurse, Team Lead, or other nursing leadership experience.
Current ACLS Certification.
Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) experience.
CNOR certification.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment and supplies.
Ability to assist with patient positioning and transfers.
Visual and auditory acuity necessary for patient assessment and monitoring.
Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
