Position Summary
McNamara Florist is seeking a dependable Interior Plant Maintenance Technician to care for plants and seasonal plant displays at our corporate client locations throughout Indianapolis and the surrounding area.
This is a mobile position that involves traveling between hotels, offices, businesses, and other commercial properties on an established service route. Employees will use their own vehicle to travel between client locations and will be reimbursed for business mileage. Candidates must have reliable transportation and be comfortable navigating and driving throughout Indianapolis, including downtown Indianapolis.
The Interior Plant Maintenance Technician will visit assigned client locations on a regular schedule to water, fertilize, groom, clean, and maintain interior plants. This position will also assist with seasonal plantings, plant replacements, and installations to ensure each client's plants and displays remain healthy, attractive, and appropriate for their space.
This is a part-time position, with the opportunity for additional hours for someone interested in assisting our Plant Department with preparing and filling plant orders for delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Travel to assigned corporate client locations according to an established maintenance schedule.
- Water interior plants appropriately based on plant variety, container, environment, and individual plant needs.
- Fertilize plants according to established schedules and plant-care guidelines.
- Inspect plants for overall health, including signs of overwatering, underwatering, disease, pests, or other concerns.
- Remove dead or damaged leaves, spent blooms, and other plant material.
- Prune, trim, rotate, stake, and groom plants as necessary to maintain a healthy and attractive appearance.
- Clean plant foliage, containers, saucers, and surrounding areas as needed.
- Ensure plants and containers are positioned neatly and appropriately within each client's space.
- Identify plants that need replacement and communicate concerns to the appropriate team member.
- Maintain consistently high standards for plant health and presentation.
Seasonal Planting & Installations
- Assist with seasonal changes to plant displays at corporate client locations.
- Plant and refresh containers using appropriate plants, soil, and materials.
- Ensure installations are completed neatly and efficiently and that client areas are left clean when work is completed.
Driving & Service Route Responsibilities
- Use a reliable personal vehicle to travel between assigned client locations.
- Navigate throughout Indianapolis and surrounding communities, including downtown Indianapolis.
- Be comfortable driving, locating client properties, navigating parking garages or downtown parking areas, and transporting basic plant-maintenance supplies.
- Maintain a dependable service schedule and arrive at client locations as expected.
- Track business mileage according to company procedures for reimbursement.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and legally required automobile insurance.
Client Service
- Represent McNamara Florist professionally while working inside client facilities.
- Be courteous and respectful of clients, employees, guests, and their workspaces.
- Communicate plant concerns, client requests, or service issues to McNamara management.
- Work carefully, quietly, and cleanly to minimize disruption to the client's business.
- Develop familiarity with assigned client locations and their individual plant-care needs.
OPTIONAL: Additional Plant Department Hours
For candidates interested in additional hours, opportunities may be available within McNamara Florist's Plant Department. Additional responsibilities may include:
- Designing plant orders for delivery.
- Planting and assembling European gardens and other plant designs.
- Cleaning and grooming plants prior to delivery.
- Watering and maintaining plant inventory.
- Pulling plants and other supplies for our retail store locations.
- Assisting with plant receiving, organization, and inventory.
- Helping maintain a clean and organized Plant Department.

- Comfort and confidence driving throughout Indianapolis, including downtown and surrounding areas.
Previous experience with houseplants, horticulture, landscaping, gardening, greenhouse work, floral work, or commercial plant maintenance is helpful.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This is an active, hands-on position. Employees must be able to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Bend, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive movements while caring for plants.
- Carry watering equipment, plants, containers, soil, and other supplies.
- Safely lift and move plants and containers.
- Push or maneuver carts and plant materials when necessary.
- Transport plant-care supplies in their personal vehicle.
- Work independently at a variety of commercial properties, including offices, hotels, and other businesses.
- Work around water, soil, fertilizer, plant material, and standard horticultural products.
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
