These WG-4749-07 Maintenance Worker positions are Career-Seasonal appointments which are permanent positions that include the same benefits as Career (year-round) appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. For both locations, you can expect to be in a non-pay status for a maximum of one pay period (2 weeks) each year. Flagstaff Area National Monuments have non-pay between early November to early December and Lewis & Clark National Historical Park has non-pay scheduled between early February to late February.
Maintenance Workers are part of the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of these positions is to perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties and to assist journeymen and other higher-graded maintenance workers. Incumbents utilize knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.

- At the Lewis & Clark National Historical Park location, selectee will also perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks using hand and power tools to maintain safe and accessible park trails.
Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.

You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
- You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- HOUSING: Park/Government housing may be available at Flagstaff, AZ location only.
- UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- WORK SCHEDULE: Depending on location, you may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime.
- TRAVEL: You may be required to travel occasionally. Overnight away from home is rare, normally for training purposes. You may be required to obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

AREA INFORMATION:
FLAGSTAFF AREA NATIONAL MONUMENTS
The incumbent will be required to work within the Flagstaff Area National Monuments which consist of Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments. Flagstaff has an elevation of 7,000 ft. and includes multiple K-12 public and private schools, Northern Arizona University, a diverse community, medical and other support services. The rental and home markets in Flagstaff can be relatively expensive and limited. Summers in Flagstaff are warm with temperatures in the 80's and frequent monsoon thunderstorms. Winters are cold, with low temperatures near zero and snow averaging around 90 inches. Recreational opportunities in both areas cross all four seasons in environments ranging from low deserts to high mountains and include hiking, backpacking, fishing, cross-country and downhill skiing, and golfing in nearby communities.
LEWIS & CLARK NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK
Astoria sits at the mouth of the Columbia River, where forested hills meet the Pacific Ocean. As the oldest American settlement west of the Rockies, the town blends historic character with the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Astoria is near several state and federal recreation sites.
