- Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver’s license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The Institute for Human Development (IHD) is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences located on the campus of Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff, Arizona. IHD is an interdisciplinary unit and the oldest institute at NAU. IHD is part of a national network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs), working to increase access, improve attitudes toward, and increase inclusion of people with disabilities.
IHD seeks an Employment Support Assistant Manager for the grant-funded program, Supporting College Access, Learning, and Employment (SCALE). The guiding philosophy that drives program implementation for SCALE is: if individuals with intellectual disabilities self-determine their educational and employment goals and have access to supports to realize these goals, in authentic inclusive and age-appropriate environments, these students will achieve significantly improved transition and employment outcomes. The successful candidate will have: a demonstrated passion for supporting persons with disabilities, a belief in the transformative power of education, a desire to provide inclusive educational opportunities, and a desire to connect persons with disabilities in Arizona with competitive integrated employment. The Employment Support Assistant Manager will provide support and guidance to students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who are transitioning to, or participating in, postsecondary education and employment opportunities by applying the SCALE model and performance measures.
Candidates must be willing and able to travel regularly between SCALE partner sites across Arizona (Flagstaff, Kingman, Bullhead City, Lake Havasu, San Luis, and Yuma). Occasional work in evenings and weekends will be required.
45% - Program Management
- Lead development and implementation of SCALE career exploration program using a working knowledge of grant requirements, program needs, and student experiences.
- Lead coordination and day-to-day implementation of SCALE career exploration program, ensuring delivery of meaningful and supportive experiences for students with intellectual disabilities while applying established program guidelines and escalating exceptions when appropriate.
- Lead in identifying, coordinating, and maintaining individualized and community-based employment and internship opportunities. This includes developing and sustaining partnerships with internal and external stakeholders (near each SCALE site), aligning opportunities with organizational and student needs, and ensuring ongoing oversight, documentation, and compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Responsible for development and implementation of SCALE employer training aimed at increasing their knowledge and confidence in how to successfully support people with ID in their workplace, in accordance with established grant objectives and requirements.
- Responsible for development and implementation of community training to build community members’ capacity for raising awareness, effective advocacy, and supporting self-directed decision-making by students with ID.
- Drive ongoing collaboration with campus and community partners to identify and recommend sustainable strategies and resources that strengthen student recruitment, retention, and overall success.
- In collaboration with the SCALE team, coordinate the development and delivery of trainings for mentor team helping ensure consistent use of evidence-based practices across the program.
- Contribute proactive input and recommendations to strengthen assessments and the college prep academy curriculum.
- Oversee routine employment data collection, recording, and leverage preliminary analysis to inform program adjustments and ensure timely completion of all grant-required reporting components in partnership with the evaluation team.
- Attend community meetings to ensure meaningful inclusion for SCALE students.
- Support the Program Manager in coordinating and guiding the work of part-time, temporary, and student employees; monitor task progress and provide direction on routine work activities.
45% - Student Services
- Support SCALE students throughout placement search, interview process, and placement including submitting applications, interview preparation, and visiting job sites.
- Provide SCALE students with resources and trainings that promote personal growth, career and academic planning, and decision making.
- Implement and manage program-specific coaching strategies, including Person-Centered Planning (PCP) and Universal Design for Learning approaches, to effectively support students in achieving academic, social, and career objectives.
- Participate in student-driven PCP meetings, coordinating necessary employment supports and ensuring recommended practices are followed to help students set, refine, and pursue individualized goals.
- Maintain recordkeeping of all student interactions including necessary follow up action items.
- Manage and execute recruitment activities, including community outreach, presentations to high schools, college campuses, and parent groups, to grow program visibility and attract new participants.
5% - Administrative
- Participate in team meetings.
- Assist Program Manager with the development of the annual performance report and other reporting as required by grant funders.

- A Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling, special education, psychology, social work or related field.
- 1-2 years of management or supervisory experience.
- 1-2 years experience coaching, advising, or mentoring college students.
- 1-2 years experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- 1-2 years experience providing person-centered services to people with disabilities to meet education, employment, or community goals.
- Experience working with local, state, and federal programs and resources that support individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Experience accessing and utilizing a variety of college and community resources.

Salary range is $58,882 - $73,434. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
