Food Safety Quality Manager / QC Manager
Location: 9 Elkins Road, East Brunswick, NJ 08816
On-site, 5 days per week (no remote work available)

Position Summary

The Food Safety & Quality Manager is responsible for managing daily quality control activities within the SQF-certified facility. This role oversees production quality, QC Technicians, product inspections, testing, product release, and compliance with company, customer, regulatory, and SQF requirements. The position reports directly to the QA Director.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and supervise QC Technicians, including task assignment, coaching, performance monitoring, and completion of quality inspections.
Provide daily production floor quality oversight, including GMP inspections, in-process checks, packaging and label verification, and finished product evaluations.
Ensure sampling, testing, inspection records, and product release activities are completed according to procedures.
Review production records, quality documentation, and test results to verify compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
Manage non-conforming materials, product holds, investigations, corrective actions, and product disposition.
Support the SQF Quality Management System, including HACCP programs, allergen controls, traceability, sanitation verification, environmental monitoring, and corrective action programs.
Investigate customer complaints, internal quality issues, and process deviations using root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Monitor quality trends and work with Production teams to improve processes and reduce recurring issues.
Coordinate product testing programs, including microbiological, chemical, physical, and sensory testing.
Review and approve COAs, quality records, production documentation, and product release records.
Support SQF, customer, and regulatory audits by maintaining accurate records and ensuring audit readiness.
Provide quality and food safety training to QC Technicians and production employees.
Work closely with Production and Warehouse teams to resolve quality issues and improve process controls.
Maintain quality metrics and report on complaints, holds, deviations, and improvement activities.
Have authority to place products on hold, stop production when quality or food safety risks are identified, and approve product release according to company procedures.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or related field preferred.
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in food manufacturing quality control, preferably in spice, seasoning, blending, or dry food processing.
Previous experience managing or leading QC Technicians or quality team members.
Strong knowledge of GMPs, HACCP principles, SQF requirements, food safety programs, and quality control practices. SQF Practitioner, HACCP, or similar certification is an asset.
Experience with production inspections, sampling plans, product testing, specifications, non-conforming products, and corrective actions.
Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems. Experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) is an asset.
