About Us

Madruga is a James Beard nominated, neighborhood craft bakery and café devoted to the pleasure of preparing and sharing ingredient driven breads, pastries, and lunch and breakfast fare. From our warm and welcoming open kitchen, to grinding heirloom grains in house on our custom-made stone mill, Madruga brings a fresh and unique way of baking rustic breads and fine pastries for our community.

Position Summary

The pastry cook is responsible for preparing, baking, assembling, and finishing a variety of pastries and cakes while maintaining Madruga Bakery’s standards for quality, consistency, and cleanliness. This role requires strong attention to detail, efficiency, and a passion for pastry production in a fast-paced bakery environment.

We will consider part time or full time candidates. This position has both AM shifts, approximately 7am-3pm, and PM shifts, 1pm-9pm. There is some flexibility in the days/hours, which will be discussed further in an interview. Pay starts at $20/hr for 1-2 year experience, and we will meet higher pay with more experience and wider depth of product knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and bake a variety of pastries, cakes, cookie doughs, fillings, frostings, pies, and more according to established recipes
Assemble, decorate, and finish cakes, including layering, icing, and basic decorative work
Scale, mix, bake, and finish products consistently and on schedule
Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation in compliance with health and safety standards
Properly store ingredients and finished products
Work with other team members to ensure smooth daily operations
Follow all bakery procedures, recipes, and production timelines

Qualifications

Previous experience as a pastry baker in a professional scratch kitchen
Knowledge of pastry and cake techniques, baking methods, and kitchen equipment
Ability to follow recipes accurately and work with precision
A sense of urgency, and ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
Strong time management skills and ability to multitask
Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
Team-oriented, dependable, and detail-focused
