Full Job Description

USCG Master Captain – Passenger Excursions

Morada Mermaid – Islamorada, Florida
Part-Time | Competitive Pay Based on Experience

Morada Mermaid is seeking an experienced, safety-focused USCG Master Captain to operate sightseeing, snorkeling, sandbar, sunset, and private charter excursions in Islamorada.

We are a locally owned and operated Florida Keys excursion company known for providing safe, professional, and memorable experiences. The ideal candidate is a confident vessel operator, dependable team leader, and personable host who enjoys working with guests.

Responsibilities

Safely operate a Coast Guard-inspected passenger vessel carrying up to 42 passengers
Conduct pre-trip vessel inspections and confirm all required safety equipment is onboard and operational
Navigate local waterways, reefs, sandbars, and docking areas safely
Monitor weather, wind, tides, and sea conditions and make appropriate operational decisions
Deliver required passenger safety briefings
Lead and supervise mates and onboard crew
Provide friendly, professional customer service throughout each excursion
Assist guests with snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, and other activities
Maintain accurate passenger manifests, vessel logs, incident reports, and required documentation
Ensure compliance with USCG regulations and company operating procedures
Assist with cleaning, fueling, basic vessel maintenance, and reporting mechanical concerns

Required Qualifications

Current USCG Master Captain License appropriate for the vessel and route
Current Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
Valid CPR and First Aid certification
Current USCG medical certificate
Enrollment in a USCG-compliant drug testing consortium
Strong boat-handling, docking, navigation, and passenger-vessel experience
Knowledge of Florida Keys waters and local weather conditions
Professional appearance and excellent communication skills
Ability to work weekends, holidays, and a flexible schedule
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and remain eligible for random testing
Reliable transportation to Islamorada

Preferred Qualifications

Experience operating inspected passenger vessels
Experience carrying groups of 30 or more passengers
Familiarity with Islamorada reefs, sandbars, and surrounding waterways
Tourism, snorkeling, charter, or hospitality experience
Basic mechanical and vessel-maintenance knowledge

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to work outdoors in sun, heat, wind, and changing marine conditions; stand for extended periods; climb aboard vessels; handle dock lines and equipment; and lift up to 50 pounds.
