Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Quality Control Technician – HPLC Testing is responsible for performing routine analytical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and other laboratory equipment.

This position supports the quality control program for dietary supplement gummies and related products. The technician will prepare samples, operate and maintain HPLC instruments, review chromatographic results, document laboratory activities, and assist with investigations when test results fall outside established specifications.

Key ResponsibilitiesHPLC Testing and Sample Preparation

Perform HPLC testing for identity, potency, assay, and stability evaluation of active ingredients in raw materials and finished products.
Prepare standards, reagents, mobile phases, and test samples according to approved methods and laboratory procedures.
Accurately weigh, extract, dilute, filter, and label samples before analysis.
Set up HPLC sequences, monitor instrument performance, and process chromatographic data.
Verify that system suitability requirements are met before reporting test results.
Identify unusual chromatograms, inconsistent results, and potential instrument or sample-preparation issues.

Laboratory Operations

Perform routine instrument checks, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting for HPLC systems.
Maintain HPLC columns, balances, pipettes, pH meters, water activity meters, and other laboratory equipment.
Document instrument usage, maintenance, calibration status, and laboratory inventory.
Maintain organized storage of standards, reagents, samples, and retain samples.
Ensure that expired standards, reagents, and mobile phases are properly identified and removed from use.

Documentation and Compliance

Complete laboratory worksheets, instrument logs, test reports, and electronic records accurately and promptly.
Follow approved SOPs, test methods, specifications, and Good Documentation Practices.
Maintain complete, traceable, and review-ready laboratory records.
Support data integrity requirements, including proper documentation of sample preparation, instrument runs, calculations, and any changes made during data processing.
Assist with Out-of-Specification (OOS), Out-of-Trend (OOT), deviation, and corrective-action investigations under the direction of the QC Manager.
Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections when required.

Quality Control Support

Assist with testing related to raw-material qualification, finished-product release, stability studies, process validation, and method verification.
Communicate testing status, delays, and abnormal findings to the QC Manager promptly.
Work closely with Quality Assurance, Production, Product Development, and Warehouse teams.
Follow laboratory safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Required Qualifications

Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, food science, or a related scientific field.
Hands-on laboratory experience with HPLC sample preparation and instrument operation.
Ability to follow analytical procedures carefully and perform accurate calculations.
Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
Ability to maintain clear, complete, and legible laboratory records.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and laboratory data systems.
Ability to work independently while following established procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more years of experience in a dietary supplement, pharmaceutical, food, or contract-testing laboratory.
Experience testing vitamins, minerals, botanical ingredients, amino acids, or functional gummy products.
Experience with HPLC software such as Agilent OpenLab, ChemStation, Waters Empower, or similar platforms.
Familiarity with USP, AOAC, FDA dietary supplement cGMP requirements, and laboratory investigation procedures.
Experience with additional testing equipment, such as UV-Vis spectrophotometers, FTIR, pH meters, water activity meters, or dissolution equipment.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand or sit at a laboratory workstation for extended periods.
Ability to handle laboratory glassware, chemicals, and small instruments safely.
Ability to lift laboratory supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including a lab coat, gloves, and safety glasses.

Work Environment

This position is based in a quality control laboratory within a dietary supplement manufacturing facility. The technician may handle chemical reagents and product samples and must follow all laboratory safety, hygiene, and documentation procedures.

Pay: From $28.00 per hour
