Fiber Drop Technician / FTTH Contractor — Experienced & Entry-Level
Quantum Infrastructure Solutions LLC is looking to add dependable Fiber Drop Technicians / 1099 Independent Contractors to our growing team in Northeast Florida.
EXPERIENCED FTTH TECHNICIANS AND PEOPLE WANTING TO LEARN ARE BOTH ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.
If you already know how to install and bury fiber drops, perform driveway bores, operate underground equipment, and complete FTTH work independently, we want to hear from you.
Don't have fiber experience but want to learn the trade?
We are also willing to train the right person who has a strong work ethic, reliable transportation, is comfortable working outdoors, and is serious about learning how to become an independent fiber drop technician.
This is production-based 1099 independent contractor work — NOT hourly employment.
Technicians are paid using our 3-tier production payout structure, allowing experienced technicians to qualify at a higher level while giving newer technicians an opportunity to learn, develop their skills, and advance.
THE WORK
Technicians perform residential FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) underground drop work.
Typical work includes:
- Installing residential fiber drops
- Burying fiber from the service point to the residence
- Completing drops of various footage lengths
- Properly routing and protecting fiber
- Hand digging when necessary
- Driveway and sidewalk boring
- Operating underground installation equipment
- Working safely around marked underground utilities
- Protecting yards, driveways, landscaping, homes, and customer property
- Restoring disturbed areas after installation
- Taking required before, during, and after photos
- Completing required job documentation
- Reporting damages or problems immediately
- Completing assigned work according to customer specifications and company quality standards
Technicians must eventually be capable of completing the entire assigned job, including driveway bores when required.
EXPERIENCED TECHNICIANS
If you already have FTTH experience, we are interested in technicians who can come in and produce quality work.
Ideal experienced applicants will have experience with:
- Residential FTTH drops
- Underground fiber installation
- Drop burial
- Driveway/sidewalk boring
- Underground tools and equipment
- Utility awareness
- Job documentation
- Production-based telecommunications work
Experienced technicians who already have a properly equipped work vehicle and their own tools/equipment are strongly encouraged to apply.
Your experience, equipment, demonstrated ability, quality, and production will be considered when determining your technician payout tier.
NEW TO FIBER? WE WILL TRAIN THE RIGHT PERSON.
Previous fiber experience is NOT required for every applicant.
If you have never installed fiber but want an opportunity to learn a skilled trade, we are willing to train the right person.
We're looking for people who:
- Are dependable
- Show up when they say they will
- Want to work
- Are willing to learn
- Can follow directions
- Can accept constructive feedback
- Are comfortable working outdoors
- Don't mind physical work
- Respect customers and their property
- Take pride in doing a job correctly
- Want to develop into an independent technician
Experience in construction, landscaping, irrigation, utilities, cable, telecommunications, electrical, or other outdoor field work can be helpful but is not required.
We can teach fiber.
We can't teach someone to be dependable or willing to work.
MANDATORY 3-DAY COMPANY TRAINING
ALL technicians must complete a mandatory 3-day training and company standards orientation.
This applies to both experienced and inexperienced technicians.
Even if you have years of FTTH experience, you will spend three days with the owner or an approved Lead Technician before being released to perform assignments independently.
This is not intended to teach an experienced technician everything they already know.
It allows us to verify your abilities and make sure every technician working under Quantum Infrastructure Solutions understands our specific customer requirements, documentation procedures, safety expectations, and quality standards.
Training/verification may include:
- Fiber drop installation
- Proper burial procedures
- Driveway and sidewalk boring
- Underground equipment operation
- Utility awareness and damage prevention
- Property protection
- Restoration expectations
- Required job photographs
- Job documentation
- Job closeout
- Safety requirements
- Customer interaction
- Quality-control standards
- Production expectations
Experienced technicians can demonstrate their existing abilities during this period.
New technicians will receive hands-on instruction and will continue developing their skills before being expected to complete work independently.
3-TIER PRODUCTION PAY STRUCTURE
Quantum Infrastructure Solutions uses a three-tier technician payout system.
This allows us to compensate technicians according to their demonstrated ability, experience, equipment, quality, and production.
TECH 1 — HIGHEST PAYOUT TIER
For experienced, fully capable technicians who can independently complete the full scope of assigned FTTH drop work.
A Tech 1 should be capable of handling:
- Standard and difficult drops
- Longer drops
- Driveway/sidewalk bores
- Underground equipment
- Proper restoration
- Complete documentation
- Quality work without constant supervision
- Strong daily production
TECH 2 — MID PAYOUT TIER
For technicians who can independently complete most assigned drop work but may still be developing certain advanced skills, equipment capabilities, speed, or production.
TECH 3 — DEVELOPMENT / STANDARD TIER
For newer technicians or individuals being developed into independent fiber drop technicians.
This gives someone without years of fiber experience an opportunity to enter the field, learn the work, demonstrate their ability, and advance.
YOU CAN MOVE UP.
Technician tiers are not necessarily permanent.
Advancement can be based on:
- Quality of work
- Reliability
- Production
- Ability to work independently
- Driveway boring capability
- Equipment capabilities
- Proper documentation
- Safety
- Communication
- Ability to handle difficult assignments
- Overall performance
The goal is for technicians who perform well to develop and move into higher production payout tiers.
IMPORTANT — 3-WEEK PAYOUT HOLD / PAYMENT CYCLE
Applicants need to understand our payment cycle before accepting work.
This is production-based contractor work with a 3-week payout delay/hold from the applicable week-ending period.
Completed and approved work is submitted through our billing cycle and is scheduled for contractor payout three weeks after the applicable week-ending date, according to our contractor payout schedule.
After the initial three-week delay is established, the payout schedule rolls weekly for approved work.
EXAMPLE:
You complete approved work during a designated work week.
That week's approved production enters the 3-week payout cycle.
Once the initial three-week period has passed, subsequent approved weekly production continues through the established weekly payout schedule.
DO NOT APPLY if you cannot financially manage the initial payout delay.
We want applicants to understand the payment structure upfront so there are no surprises after starting.
Specific payout dates, production rates, approval requirements, and payment procedures will be reviewed during onboarding.
VEHICLE & EQUIPMENT
Technicians need a reliable vehicle suitable for field work.
Experienced technicians should have the tools and equipment necessary to perform the type of work they are accepting.
Depending on your assignments, equipment may be necessary for:
- Fiber installation
- Drop burial
- Hand digging
- Driveway boring
- Underground work
- Property restoration
- Job documentation
DON'T HAVE EVERY TOOL YET?
We may be able to help the right contractor obtain certain required tools or equipment.
Any company-assisted equipment purchase will be documented using a separate written Equipment Purchase & Contractor Payout Deduction Authorization.
The agreement will clearly identify:
- Equipment being purchased/provided
- Cost of each item
- Total agreed amount
- Starting balance
- Repayment terms
- Contractor signature
- Company signature
There will be NO 15% equipment repayment deduction from your first three contractor checks/payouts.
After you have received your third contractor check, the equipment repayment deduction begins with your fourth eligible payout.
At that point, 15% of each eligible contractor payout will be applied toward the documented equipment balance until the agreed amount is paid in full, subject to the signed agreement and applicable law.
Once the balance reaches $0, that equipment repayment deduction stops.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must have:
- Valid driver's license
- Reliable transportation/work vehicle
- Smartphone with reliable service
- Ability to work outdoors
- Ability to perform physical field work
- Dependable communication
- Ability to follow safety requirements
- Ability to work around underground utilities
- Willingness to learn company/customer standards
- Professional behavior around customers and their property
Experienced applicants should be capable of demonstrating their abilities.
Applicants without experience must be willing to learn the skills necessary to eventually complete assignments independently, including learning driveway boring and underground installation procedures.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're building a team that includes both experienced technicians and new technicians who want an opportunity to learn.
If you've been doing FTTH work for years and can produce quality work independently, we want to talk to you.
If you've never touched fiber but you're dependable, hardworking, mechanically inclined, and serious about learning the trade, we want to talk to you too.
What matters is whether you can meet our standards, produce quality work, communicate, take care of customers' property, and become someone we can depend on in the field.
