Position Overview
Stokes Granite & Stone is seeking an experienced Lead Stone Countertop Installer who can lead an installation crew, take ownership of jobsite outcomes, and consistently deliver professional-quality countertop installations.
This is not an entry-level position. The right candidate must have hands-on experience installing natural stone, quartz, and other countertop surfaces. You must be able to evaluate jobsite conditions, solve installation problems, direct another installer or helper, communicate professionally with customers and contractors, and complete each project to company quality standards.
The Lead Installer is responsible for more than physically installing countertops. You will be expected to manage the installation process from loading and jobsite arrival through final inspection, customer communication, documentation, and completion.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the assigned installation crew and take responsibility for the final outcome of each installation.
- Review job information, drawings, measurements, notes, and installation requirements before leaving the shop.
- Confirm that all countertop pieces, sinks, backsplashes, supplies, tools, and installation materials are loaded.
- Safely transport and handle natural stone, quartz, and other countertop materials.
- Inspect the job site before installation and identify conditions that could affect the work.
- Perform accurate countertop installation, leveling, shimming, seaming, fastening, caulking, and final detailing.
- Complete field modifications and problem-solving when conditions differ from the installation plan.
- Properly install undermount sinks, backsplashes, supports, and related countertop components.
- Protect the customer’s home, cabinets, flooring, walls, appliances, and surrounding work areas.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, contractors, designers, project managers, and office staff.
- Immediately report jobsite problems, damage, missing information, safety concerns, or conditions that prevent completion.
- Take required jobsite photographs and complete installation reports.
- Perform a final quality inspection before leaving the jobsite.
- Keep the installation vehicle, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and properly maintained.
- Reduce preventable callbacks, damage, incomplete installations, and return trips.
- Train and develop installation helpers and other crew members.
- Follow all company safety procedures and vehicle-use requirements.
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of professional stone countertop installation experience.
- Previous experience acting as a lead installer or directing an installation crew.
- Strong experience installing natural stone and engineered quartz countertops.
- Ability to produce clean, level, properly aligned installations.
- Strong experience with field seams, sink installation, backsplash installation, caulking, and jobsite finishing.
- Ability to read installation drawings, measurements, job notes, and countertop layouts.
- Ability to recognize jobsite problems before they become costly mistakes.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with customers and coworkers.
