Full Job Description

The Sterile Processing Technician plays a vital role in supporting the operations of the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) Clinics with a primary role at The Dental Center in Pomona by ensuring that all surgical and dental instruments are cleaned, sterilized, and maintained in compliance with industry standards. This individual will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to provide sterile instruments and equipment necessary for academic and clinical activities. This individual will also support the education mission of CDM.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

Knowledge of sterile processing and infection prevention principles.
Must have demonstrated knowledge in aseptic infection control and sterilization techniques as they relate to dental practice.

Skills:

Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills. Must be able to effectively interact with health care professionals, students, and patients. Bilingual ability is helpful.

Abilities:

Proficient with computers, use of dental technology, electronic health record, printers, calculator, fax machine, copy machine operation, electronic mail, video communications programs and telephone operation. Continuous creating a safe, effective environment for patient care, and teamwork.
Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism.

Required Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or GED.

Experience:

Must be a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from HSPA and have a minimum of one year’s experience as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician.
Demonstrated proficiency in operating and maintaining sterilization equipment, including autoclaves.
One or more years of experience as a Certified Sterile Processing Technician.

License and/or certifications:

Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) from HSPA.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in sterile processing within a dental or academic healthcare setting.
Knowledge of dental instruments and equipment.
Familiarity with inventory management systems.
Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Preference given to those with experience in dental education.

Essential Job Duties

Key Responsibilities

Decontaminate, clean, inspect, assemble, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in compliance with HSPA and dental industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and distribute instrument trays, packs, and kits for clinical and educational use.
Collaborate with faculty and clinical staff to anticipate instrument and equipment needs.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine biological and chemical tests to verify sterilization efficacy and maintain accurate records of all sterilization processes.
Adhere to infection prevention protocols and follow all OSHA and dental safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure inventory levels are maintained, including ordering, receiving, and stocking supplies as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Participate in quality assurance initiatives and stay updated on sterile processing best practices and regulations.
Participate in required training and mandatory in-services such as BLS, infection control, and HIPAA.

Support clinical faculty in teaching students how to function as a dental provider on the dental team.

Maintain and monitor sterilization equipment, ensuring proper functioning and reporting issues as needed.
Adhere to infection prevention protocols and follow all OSHA and dental safety standards.

Work Schedule

Usual hours are 8am-5pm M-F. Some overtime may be required. Some weekends may be required.
May require travel to CDM clinical site which includes but not limited to, Pomona, El Monte or other site locations.
