Our staff members serve public agencies in various capacities, including City Engineer, City Traffic Engineer, Building Official, Planner, Project Manager, and Inspector. Our staff members have a broad knowledge of municipal government operations, including preparation and presentation of staff reports/resolutions to city councils, committees and interaction with public, various city departments, city council and other governmental agencies.
Overview
Transtech Engineers, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Public Works Inspector with a minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in public works construction inspection, capital improvement projects (CIP), and municipal infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience overseeing complex public works projects and ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
The Senior Public Works Inspector will serve as a key representative on behalf of municipal clients, providing construction oversight, coordination with contractors and agencies, documentation review, and quality assurance throughout all phases of construction. This position requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, leadership abilities, and exceptional communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed inspections of public works capital improvement projects, development projects, and municipal infrastructure improvements.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, special provisions, applicable codes, and contract requirements.
- Inspect roadway improvements, grading operations, utility installations, storm drain systems, water and sewer improvements, traffic signal systems, street lighting, sidewalks, ADA improvements, and related public infrastructure.
- Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, engineering drawings, contracts, and change orders.
- Coordinate with City staff, contractors, utility companies, consultants, developers, and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain accurate project records including daily inspection reports, quantity tracking, photo documentation, field memoranda, and project correspondence.
- Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Monitor project schedules, contractor performance, safety practices, and quality control measures.
- Attend construction meetings and provide technical recommendations regarding project progress and compliance.
- Assist with project closeout activities, punch lists, final inspections, and acceptance procedures.
- Perform contract administration support, including review of pay estimates, change orders, requests for information (RFIs), and project documentation.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior inspectors and project staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of public works construction inspection experience involving municipal infrastructure and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects.
- Extensive knowledge of public works construction methods, materials, standards, specifications, and inspection procedures.
- Experience inspecting roadway, utility, drainage, grading, paving, concrete, traffic signal, and related municipal infrastructure projects.
- Thorough understanding of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations, including Caltrans standards and specifications.
- Ability to read, interpret, and enforce engineering plans, specifications, special provisions, and construction contracts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment in the field.
- Valid California Class C Driver License with a satisfactory driving record.

- Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP)
- Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI)
- Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- Applicable Caltrans Certifications
- ICC Construction Inspector Certifications
- ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- Caltrans Partnering, Materials, or Inspection Certifications
- IMSA Traffic Signal or Traffic Safety Certifications
- NPDES / Stormwater Compliance Certifications

Working Conditions
This position requires a combination of field and office work. The employee may be required to stand, walk, climb, bend, and traverse active construction sites for extended periods. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds and travel to project sites throughout Southern California is required.
