Strategic Content Lead
Social Media, Email Marketing & Digital Growth
Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
Work Environment: In-office
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
The Creative Agency is seeking a Strategic Content Lead to own the direction, execution, and performance of social media and email marketing across a portfolio of client accounts.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how content builds brands, earns attention, strengthens customer relationships, and supports measurable business growth.
Using the overall strategic execution plans set by leadership, you will establish the creative direction, write and refine the content, manage campaign execution, coordinate with designers and production teams, and remain accountable for how each account performs.
What You Will OwnSocial Media Strategy
You will lead the social media direction for assigned client accounts across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Pinterest, and emerging channels when appropriate.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing account-specific social media strategies
- Building monthly and quarterly content plans
- Identifying meaningful trends, platform shifts, and audience opportunities
- Establishing content pillars, campaign themes, and platform priorities
- Determining the right mix of educational, promotional, brand-building, community, and conversion-focused content
- Writing captions, hooks, calls to action, scripts, and campaign messaging
- Overseeing scheduling, publishing, quality control, and account consistency
- Reviewing performance and adjusting strategy based on what the data shows
- Ensuring content supports the client’s larger marketing and business goals
You should understand the difference between content that fills a calendar and content that moves a brand forward.
Email Marketing
You will lead email strategy and execution across client accounts, including campaigns, newsletters, automated communications, launches, promotions, and audience-nurturing initiatives.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing email marketing calendars and campaign strategies
- Writing and directing email messaging, subject lines, preview text, and calls to action
- Determining campaign structure, audience segmentation, timing, and frequency
- Collaborating with designers on email creative and layout
- Reviewing campaign performance, including opens, clicks, conversions, and engagement
- Identifying opportunities to improve retention, customer value, and audience response
- Connecting email campaigns with social media, website, advertising, and broader marketing initiatives
The right person understands that email is not simply another place to repeat a social media caption.
Creative Direction
You will set a clear vision for the designers, photographers, videographers, and production professionals supporting each account.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing clear, actionable creative briefs
- Directing the look, tone, style, and purpose of content
- Planning photo and video needs around campaigns and business priorities
- Identifying the shots, assets, graphics, scripts, and supporting materials required
- Reviewing creative work for strategic alignment, brand consistency, and quality
- Giving useful, specific feedback that helps the team improve the work
- Ensuring every asset is client-ready before it reaches leadership or the client
You do not need to personally design, photograph, or film every piece of content. You do need to know what strong creative work looks like and how to direct a team toward it.
Client Account Leadership
You will manage assigned accounts with ownership and professionalism.
Responsibilities include:
- Learning each client’s business, audience, services, products, priorities, and competitive position
- Leading content discussions during client meetings
- Presenting plans and recommendations clearly
- Anticipating needs rather than waiting for instructions
- Keeping campaigns, deliverables, and approvals moving
- Identifying opportunities to improve the account
- Communicating concerns before they become problems
- Building trust through preparation, consistency, and strong judgment
Our clients should feel that their Strategic Content Lead understands their business and is invested in their success.
Performance and Growth
You will be responsible for understanding what is working, what is not working, and what needs to change.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring social and email performance
- Evaluating engagement, reach, audience growth, traffic, clicks, conversions, and other relevant indicators
- Identifying patterns and translating data into useful recommendations
- Testing new formats, messaging, campaigns, and creative approaches
- Reporting meaningful findings rather than simply listing metrics
- Connecting content performance back to client goals
- Making proactive recommendations for continued growth
We are not interested in chasing vanity metrics. We are interested in using the right metrics to make better decisions.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Strategic Content Lead:
- Comes to the table with ideas, not just questions
- Creates clear strategies that the rest of the team can execute
- Understands both brand-building and performance-driven content
- Produces thoughtful, polished work with minimal hand-holding
- Keeps client accounts organized, current, and moving forward
- Recognizes when content feels dated, generic, off-brand, or ineffective
- Writes clearly and adapts easily between different industries and brand voices
- Uses trends selectively and strategically
- Gives designers and production teams the information they need to succeed
- Reviews work carefully before requesting approval
- Takes responsibility for outcomes rather than blaming the platform, the algorithm, or the audience
- Makes clients feel confident that their content is being led by someone who knows what they are doing
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with:
- At least four years of professional experience in social media, digital content, email marketing, brand marketing, or a related role
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple client accounts, brands, departments, or business units
- Strong strategic thinking and an understanding of how content supports broader marketing and business objectives
- Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and communication skills
- Experience developing content calendars and integrated campaigns
- Working knowledge of major social media platforms and their current content formats
- Experience with email marketing strategy and campaign execution
- The ability to interpret performance data and make informed recommendations
- Strong creative judgment and the ability to direct visual content
- Excellent project management, organization, and follow-through
- The ability to manage competing deadlines without sacrificing quality
- Confidence presenting recommendations and communicating directly with clients
- A portfolio or work samples demonstrating strategic and executional ability
Agency experience is strongly preferred.
This Role May Not Be a Fit If
This position is probably not the right fit if your experience is primarily limited to:
- Posting prewritten content
- Recreating trends without understanding the brand
- Building attractive feeds without connecting them to business goals
- Waiting for someone else to develop the strategy
- Writing only for one personal brand or one narrow industry
- Avoiding analytics, performance reporting, or accountability
- Treating email marketing as an afterthought
- Sending incomplete work forward for someone else to finish
- Relying heavily on artificial intelligence without applying strong judgment, original thinking, fact-checking, or editing
We use modern tools, including artificial intelligence, where they improve efficiency and quality. We do not use them as a substitute for expertise, creative judgment, or professional responsibility.
