Full Job Description

Join our team as a Full-Time Activity Director in Long-Term Care! This position is scheduled Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM and every other Saturday.

Job Title: ACTIVITY DIRECTOR

Job Description:

PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION:

Originate, schedule, and supervise activity programming in the facility within the limits set by the attending physicians and with the active support of the Administrator. Confer periodically with the DON concerning individual resident needs, limitations and progress and scheduling of special events within overall resident care program. Utilize activities to suit resident needs and fit them into the overall resident care routines and objectives. Encourage individuals to participate in activities and document resident participation. Summarize participation and individual response to team members to aid in coordination of overall program. Recruit, instruct and supervise volunteer workers and entertainers as approved by the DON. Based on knowledge of usage, order and maintain supplies or materials needed for activities.

Director of Nursing-LTC

Skills:

Patience to get along with people and talk to strangers.
Ability to assume the responsibility for planning and carrying out an activities program.
Desire to work with the ill, aged and/or disabled.
Willingness to learn new ideas and skills.
Ability to identify life styles, interests, needs and concerns of elderly, medically and mentally handicapped persons as well as the best type of activity which relates to the individual.
Have basic knowledge of a variety of activities such as games, crafts, exercise, music, etc. which assist in maintaining and rehabilitating the patient.
Ability to learn techniques which are used with persons with Special Sensory Loss.
Awareness of the value of Public Relations and through activities related to families and community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervise and direct the selection of projects, securing materials and involving the residents in activities which are designed with the physical and mental limitations of the resident in mind.
Prepare 1 on 1 materials: Tapes, books, magazines, etc. for volunteers for 1 on 1 activities.
Do daily charting of activity attendance and involvement in care center routine.
Assist families with special events and activities pertaining to their family.
Attend staff meetings and department head meetings as scheduled.
Assure that residents rights are being adhered to by all staff. Provide a role model for the staff in interactions with residents, families and visitors.
Assume other duties which may be assigned.
Functions and operates within the department budget.

Minimum educational requirements:

High School Diploma.
CPR, DDA and completion of AD class within 6 months of hire.

Experience:

Nursing home experience preferred.
Must have the ability to communicate effectively with elderly patients and cooperate with other nursing staff members.
