Full Job Description

Certified Surgical Technologist (Scrub Technician)

Position Summary

The Surgical Technologist (Scrub Technician) is responsible for assisting the plastic surgeon during surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, maintaining sterile technique, anticipating the surgeon's needs, and ensuring the safe handling of instruments, supplies, and equipment. The Scrub Technician plays a vital role in providing exceptional patient care while maintaining compliance with OSHA, AAAASF/Joint Commission (if applicable), and infection control standards.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSurgical Assistance

Prepare and maintain a sterile surgical field.
Scrub, gown, and glove according to sterile protocol.
Set up surgical instruments, equipment, implants, and supplies for procedures.
Pass instruments, sutures, implants, and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
Anticipate the surgeon's needs throughout each procedure.
Count instruments, needles, sponges, and supplies before, during, and after surgery.
Assist with specimen handling and labeling.
Assist with patient positioning while maintaining patient safety.
Assist in applying dressings and postoperative garments.

Operating Room Preparation

Prepare operating rooms for scheduled procedures.
Verify proper functioning of surgical equipment.
Ensure all instruments have been sterilized appropriately.
Perform room turnover efficiently between cases.
Stock and organize surgical supplies and equipment.
Monitor expiration dates on sterile supplies.

Sterile Processing

Clean, inspect, package, and sterilize surgical instruments.
Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment.
Maintain sterilization logs and biological monitoring documentation.
Inspect instruments for wear or damage.
Coordinate repairs or replacement of surgical instruments.
Take out garbage at the end of surgery day.

Patient Care

Assist with transporting patients safely.
Verify patient identity and surgical procedure.
Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
Provide compassionate care before and after procedures.
Assist the nursing staff as needed.

Safety & Compliance

Follow OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards.
Adhere to infection prevention protocols.
Maintain HIPAA compliance.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Report equipment malfunctions and safety concerns immediately.
Maintain AAAASF, Joint Commission, or state regulatory compliance standards as applicable.
Dispose of all medical, biohazardous, and general waste in accordance with OSHA, state, and facility guidelines.

Qualifications Required

High school diploma or GED.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification preferred.
Current BLS Certification.
Minimum of 1–2 years of surgical experience (plastic surgery experience preferred).
Knowledge of aseptic technique and sterile processing.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10.0 – 36.0 per week
