Senior Staff Accountant

Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant
Location: Macon, GA 31210
Job Type: Contract
Contract Duration: 12 Months
Pay Rate: Open Market Rate

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support day-to-day general accounting processes and provide financial guidance and analysis for Advocate Aurora Health (AAH) and its subsidiaries.

The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely recording, analysis, and reporting of financial and statistical information in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), governmental regulations, and company accounting policies.

This position will work closely with teams including Financial Planning, Financial Reporting, Tax, Supply Chain, Legal, Human Resources, and Information Technology.

Key Responsibilities

Perform monthly financial close activities, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and statistical analysis.
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports.
Compare financial results against budgets and historical trends to identify variances and provide meaningful analysis.
Ensure financial activity is accurately recorded in accordance with U.S. GAAP, governmental regulations, and accounting policies.
Prepare ad-hoc reports, financial analyses, and special assignments as needed.
Monitor, evaluate, implement, and maintain internal controls within assigned areas of responsibility.
Research accounting issues and assist with the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures.
Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and participate in implementing improved accounting procedures.
Respond accurately and timely to internal and external audit requests and inquiries.
Support reporting and regulatory requirements by providing appropriate financial information and analysis.
Analyze accounting estimates and risk areas and provide recommendations for issue resolution to Accounting Management.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
Maintain current accounting knowledge through professional development, industry publications, networking, and educational opportunities.

Required QualificationsEducation

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

Experience

Typically requires 5 years of accounting experience.
Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and applicable government rules and regulations.
Experience with general ledger and financial/revenue-cycle business intelligence systems.
Experience with Workday and/or Epic is highly desirable.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with employees, management, executives, providers, physicians, and external organizations.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools.

Self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong understanding of accounting processes, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.

Work Environment & Conditions

Standard office environment.
May require evening and weekend work during month-end, quarterly, and annual reporting periods.
Position may require travel and potential exposure to road and weather conditions.
Must be able to operate standard equipment necessary to perform job responsibilities.
