GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Administrator provides effective administrative leadership for the day-to-day and long-term operation and development of the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center (FELC), a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis (SSF). The Administrator works collaboratively with the FELC Board of Trustees, the SSF Corporate Board, staff, volunteers, and community partners to advance the mission and strategic goals of the organization. The Administrator serves as a primary representative of FELC within the community and works to build positive relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
The Administrator is responsible for the operational success of the FELC by providing leadership for its educational programs, agricultural initiatives, facilities, environmental stewardship efforts, fundraising, and community partnerships. The Administrator works to further the FELC's mission of promoting active learning and healthy relationships with the natural environment to achieve sustainable living in the spirit of St. Francis.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understands and embraces thoroughly the mission and vision of FELC to recognize our oneness with all creation, and to reflect transformation through teaching and demonstrating the value and practice of living simply, in harmony with creation, and to consider that mission and vision in the performance of all other job duties.
- Provides effective administrative leadership and direction for the day-to-day operation of the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, including its programs, activities, initiatives, and staff.
- Provides staff support to the FELC Board of Trustees and its committees, including active participation in fundraising and special events.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations, educational institutions, government agencies, businesses, foundations, environmental organizations, and other stakeholders to advance the mission, programs, and financial sustainability of FELC.
- Provides supervision, guidance, and direction to FELC employees, volunteers, and interns while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment. Holds regular team meetings to promote communication, problem solving, and team involvement. Keeps team informed of events, programs, and policies.
- Partners with the Mission Advancement Office (MAO) of the St. Francis Community to provide information and advance schedules of classes and events for external publicity and marketing.
- Coordinates with the SSF Finance Department and contracted accounting services regarding budgeting, financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll processing, and financial accountability.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Human Resources regarding recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee relations, payroll, benefits administration, workers' compensation, unemployment, safety, compliance, and personnel policies.
- Maintains organizational and corporate records in accordance with applicable record retention policies, legal requirements, and organizational procedures.
- Supports fundraising efforts by identifying and assisting with grants, sponsorships, donations, and other funding opportunities that support the mission and strategic goals of FELC.
- Directs the recruitment efforts for all individual and group volunteers at FELC, both for short term and continuing projects and supervises all volunteer staffing events and activities. Assures that all volunteers have been screened by Human Resources prior to volunteering.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as liaison between the FELC and other SSF sponsored ministries.
- Assures the physical maintenance of the FELC and enhances the facility for the promotion of the FELC’s mission in coordination with the SSF Motherhouse Administrator.
- Provides operational support and assists with continuity of programs and services during staff absences or periods of increased organizational need.
- Oversees and ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and mission alignment of the organization's website, social media platforms, and other digital communications in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Supports the annual financial review and preparation of Form 990 by coordinating with the SSF Finance Department, contracted accounting services, and the FELC Finance Committee to provide required documentation and information.
- Develops and implements a marketing, advertising and promotional plan for FELC in accordance with the mission, vision, and strategic plan aimed at furthering awareness of FELC and the various opportunities connected with it.
- Maintains a working knowledge of environmental sustainability principles, trends, and best practices to support the FELC's mission and collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners in developing and implementing programs and initiatives.
- Works collaboratively with the FELC Board of Trustees to implement the FELC Strategic Plan and achieve short- and long-term organizational goals consistent with the mission and strategic direction established by the Board.
- Assists the FELC Finance Committee and Board of Trustees in developing the annual budget and operates the FELC within approved budget guidelines. Monitors revenues, expenditures, and financial performance.
- Works with the FELC Board of Trustees Chairperson to facilitate Board of Trustees meetings.
- Coordinates with staff and community partners to utilize FELC facilities and resources as educational tools that demonstrate environmental stewardship and sustainable living practices.
- Other duties that the FELC Board of Trustees or the SSF Corporate Board may deem necessary to further the mission and vision of the FELC, and as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Education, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Natural Resources, Sustainability, or a related field preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Three to five years of progressively responsible leadership or management experience, preferably in a nonprofit, educational, environmental, or mission-driven organization.
- Experience with strategic planning, budgeting, fundraising, grant management, and working collaboratively with boards, volunteers, and community partners.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, motivate, and develop employees, volunteers, and interns.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and public presentation skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with diverse audiences.
- Experience with public relations, marketing, social media, and community outreach.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and use other software and technology platforms as needed.
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental stewardship and the mission and Franciscan values of the Sisters of St. Francis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Bend, stoop, kneel, and occasionally climb stairs.
- Frequently use a computer, keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment.
- Occasionally lift, carry, or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Travel throughout the FELC property, including uneven outdoor terrain, and occasionally attend meetings or events off-site.
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is primarily performed in an office environment with regular responsibilities outdoors throughout the FELC property. The Administrator will frequently interact with staff, volunteers, visitors, community partners, donors, and the public. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to support meetings, fundraising events, educational programming, and community outreach.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Administrator is directly accountable to the Chair of the FELC Board of Trustees.
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
