Salary Range: $80,000-$90,000
Minimum Qualifications:
- Be in good physical condition.
- Be currently active in emergency response services
- Completed a minimum of three years associated with a state certified fire or emergency management agency
- Completed two years of service in a supervisory capacity equivalent to a Captain. Comparable education and/or experience may be considered.
- Live in or be willing to relocate immediately upon hire to the Fire District or within a reasonable distance to the District as deemed acceptable by Board.

EMT-Basic
Firefighter I
Wildland Fire certification
Hazmat Operations
IQC at FFT-1 qualifications
ICS up through 400.
- Valid state driver’s license with a driving history in alignment with departmental policy.
- Computer skills including MS Word and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate/bachelor’s degree in fire science
- Fire officer training
- Engine boss certification
- Familiar with ESO Suite reporting system, Incident Qualifications System, DFPC Fire Billing and DFPC Records Management System.

Job Overview:
The Fire Chief of Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Protection District performs general administrative, managerial, and supervisory work on behalf of the Fire Protection District. As such, the Chief:
- Implements and directs the emergency response activities including fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous materials response and fire prevention/inspection activities.
- Develops, implements and evaluates goals and objectives, programs and procedures in accordance with overall policies established by the District Board, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Plans for short- and long-term equipment needs.
- Supervises day-to-day activities of the Department.
- Makes recommendations for managing the department's financial responsibilities to the District Board.
- Supervises firefighters and EMTs.
- Maintains and manages equipment.
The Fire Chief is responsible for the external affairs of the department such as, but not limited to:
- Attending interagency, county government and other associated meetings
- Coordinating and planning with other fire departments and outside agencies for mutual aid
- Collaborating with Green Mountain Falls town leaders and community groups
This is an exempt position. Regular hours Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm are expected. Evening, weekend and holiday emergency response availability may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plans, develops, organizes, performs, assigns, directs and evaluates department operations with respect to equipment, apparatus and personnel.
Reviews, revises and submits personnel policy and procedures, operating procedures, and disciplinary procedures to the Board for approval.
Attends District Board meetings to receive and provide information as appropriate; develops and monitors progress towards departmental goals and objectives.
Exercises budgetary control through the development and expenditure of appropriated funds to efficiently and effectively attain District objectives. Writes grants. Directs the preparation and analysis of department records and reports to ensure an efficient operation that meets service demands.
While on duty, responds to 911 calls and responds to all major incidents to direct District resources and personnel. Provides direction and approves fire prevention, inspection, and training programs. Serves in the official capacity of District Fire Marshal, conducting and reviewing fire inspections. Attends work as scheduled and interacts with staff and the public in a professional and respectful manner.
Performs routine equipment/med checks on emergency vehicles.
Ensures all equipment, buildings and grounds are clean and in good working order.
Oversees the recruitment, selection, and training of personnel in accordance with current IFSAC and Colorado Department of Public Health EMT standards.
Performs other duties as assigned or as required by District Board.
Work Environment:
Position is stationed in an office setting, however response to emergency calls includes extreme physical hazards, weather, and environmental conditions. Work is often performed in emergency and stressful situations. Applicant may be exposed to physical stress to include kneeling, bending, crawling and lifting up to 75 pounds.
Compensation:
Annual salary range: $80,000 to $90,000 depending upon command experience, certifications and education in a fire related field. Candidates should expect to be hired at the lower end of the salary range with potential for salary advancement throughout position tenure. Exceptions may be considered only for extremely well-qualified candidates.

Department and District Information:
Tucked away in the Rocky Mountains, the 12 square mile Fire Protection District is located on the north slope of “America’s Mountain,” Pikes Peak. Steeped in natural beauty, the Town of Green Mountain Falls was founded as a tourist haven in the 1800’s and has drawn vacationers from around the country for over 100 years. There are now approximately 3,000 permanent residents in the District, with the population swelling to over 4,500 during the summer. You are 20 minutes away from Colorado Springs, the second largest city in Colorado, and less than two hours’ drive from the state’s premier ski areas. The District has become a hub for a wide range of outdoor activities and the nationally known, sometimes eclectic art, including one of the few Skyspaces in the country, revolving installations, and the annual summer Green Box Arts Festival.
You will be working from our modern, fully equipped fire station located at 2 Carsell Way in Green Mountain Falls. Built in 2021, the main station features a crew wing with individual bedrooms, specialized weight room, locker rooms, kitchen and large lounge area. The administration wing consists of spacious offices, training room and a communications center. The district averages 500 calls a year and operates on a budget of approximately $390,000 annually. The district also has a three-bay satellite station in Chipita Park, approximately two miles from the main station. The Green Mountain Falls/Chipita Park Fire Protection District (800mhz) is dispatched by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Communications Center. The District has 12 active professional unpaid firefighters, who meet for weekly departmental and monthly medical training, maintaining a minimum of 40 training hours annually. Our personnel’s certifications include EMT Basic, Firefighter I and II, and Hazmat most with multiple credentials.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
