Full Job Description

JOB TITLE: Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) Behavior Intervention Coach

SALARY: According to placement on the current salary schedule

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 192 days

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with established guidelines or procedures and the provisions of the Board of Education policy on Evaluation of Licensed Personnel

REPORTS TO: Principal and Assistant Director of Secondary Learning

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. None

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education

2. Training inclusive of specialized coursework in behavior, interventions, or instructional coaching, preferred

Experience:

1. 5 years of successful teaching experience preferred

2. Demonstrated experience with successful implementation of interventions in the classroom

3. MTSS training/experience preferred

4. Experience in delivering staff development courses preferred

Certificates/Licenses:

1. Current State of Colorado License for Teachers or other such license or qualifications as defined by the Alternative License Program and/or the Teacher-in-Residence Program as defined by the Colorado State Board of Education or state law

2. Valid driver’s license

JOB EXPECTATIONS:

15. Continual compliance with regulations, rules or statutes related to Colorado State Board of Education Rules and Regulations, Colorado Department of Education and Colorado State Law

JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Demonstrates ability to proficiently access and extract data from the systems operated within the District

2. Facilitates building use of behavior data and assists teachers as a resource in the interpretation and utilization of data for the purpose of improving and aligning behavior management and interventions

3. Works with teachers to provide data analysis to develop interventions, instructional strategies, and best practices to meet student goals

4. Proficiency with tools to facilitate data analysis (eg: Excel, Google Sheets)

5. Ability to plan, prescribe, and implement effective intervention strategies

6. Ability to assist administration in the implementation of the Teaching and Learning Cycle across content areas, as well as school-wide behavior prevention and intervention programs

7. Demonstrates technical knowledge in the area of educational technology, including 21 Century skills

8. Ability to work independently and as a member of multidisciplinary professional team

9. Works with building administration to develop intervention plans, strategies, and goals

10. Works as a member of the School Leadership Team, and Problem-Solving Teams (PST) or Student Success Teams (SST), as appropriate

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Provide direct instruction in executive functioning, conflict resolution, and pro-social behaviors through Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions; this may include classes and short-cycle interventions

2. Facilitate restorative circles and restorative practices in collaboration with school counselors or school administrators

3. Implement and monitor student behavior intervention plans, and collaborate with Special Education on behavior intervention plans for students with IEPs

4. Coordinate the school Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program

5. Meet regularly with building administration, teacher teams, and individual teachers to promote the understanding and use of results from student classroom observation, and building- and District-level behavior data

6. Participate in district MTSS Behavior Coach collaborative meetings

7. Collaborate with teachers and teacher teams to implement different strategies to proactively minimize disruptive student behavior

8. Assist in the assessment of student needs, using various other formative assessment measures

9. Organize and monitor school-wide behavior prevention and intervention programs, and reorganize student intervention groups as needed

10. Monitor student behavior progress using data from classroom assessments, building-, district-, and state-level assessments, and other data sources, as appropriate

11. Research, obtain, and implement appropriate behavior intervention materials

12. Develop and disseminate, through coaching or professional development, intervention materials to teachers and provide training as appropriate

13. Provide direct teacher support in the implementation of behavior interventions

14. Assist the administration in staff development with particular emphasis on implementation of the Teaching and Learning Cycle and school-based behavior interventions and PBIS

15. Coordinate the building’s behavior program to include data, collection, meetings, and plans for students referred for the MTSS behavior process

16. Facilitate problem solving meetings among staff, administration, counseling, families, and students, as needed

17. Instruct non-intervention class or classes as assigned in the area in which highly qualified

18. Model an effective understanding and respect for diversity and inclusion

19. Incorporate legal rights and due process for children with special needs

20. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, collaborate with co-workers, and interact with colleagues in a professional manner

21. Demonstrate a positive attitude towards change

22. Perform such other duties as assigned
