Full Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Sheffer Corporation is seeking a driven Regional Sales Manager to expand our presence with OEM and end-user customers across the SouthEast territory. This is a field-based role for a disciplined, technically capable sales professional who is energized by opening doors, creating opportunities, and developing lasting customer relationships. The successful candidate will combine a hunter's mindset with a servant approach to customer service — listening carefully, understanding the application, and coordinating the right internal resources to deliver a practical solution.

This role is built around consistent process and execution rather than hope and heroics. Approximately 30% of the position's focus will be dedicated to proactive new-customer prospecting, with the balance focused on developing qualified opportunities, advancing accounts, and growing territory sales.

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated success in outside sales, business development, or account growth within an industrial or technical environment
A proven record of winning new customers and achieving or exceeding sales plans
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand equipment, applications, drawings, and technical specifications
Ability to communicate confidently and appropriately with individuals at every level of an organization
Strong discovery, presentation, negotiation, follow-up, and closing skills
Self-directed, organized, and comfortable managing a geographically dispersed territory
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 50%, including overnight stays
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Industrial Manufacturing preferred, but not required
Experience with industrial hydraulic and pneumatic systems is preferred
Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Territory Planning

Develops and executes a territory plan focused exclusively on direct OEM and industrial end-user accounts.

2) Proactive Prospecting

Proactively identifies, researches, and engages target accounts through outbound prospecting, referrals, networking, industry events, and strategic field activity.

3) Customer Cadence & Follow-Through

Maintains a consistent cadence of customer visits, discovery conversations, follow-up activity, and opportunity advancement.

4) Cross-Level Relationship Building

Builds relationships across all levels of the customer organization, including engineering, maintenance, operations, purchasing, and executive leadership.

5) Application & Business Understanding

Understands customer equipment, applications, and business challenges well enough to connect Sheffer capabilities to measurable customer value.

6) Technical Discovery

Reviews technical specifications, drawings, and application requirements; conducts credible technical conversations involving hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

7) Engaging Internal Expertise

Recognizes when deeper expertise is required and effectively involves Sheffer engineering, application, manufacturing, and customer-service resources.

8) Quoting & Closing

Develops quotations and commercial strategies in partnership with internal teams, then leads follow-up and closing activity.

9) Pipeline & Forecast Management

Maintains accurate account, pipeline, activity, and forecast information in the company's CRM and sales-management systems.

10) Cross-Functional Collaboration

Collaborates cross-functionally to ensure commitments are realistic, communication is clear, and the customer receives responsive support.

11) Professional Representation

Represents Sheffer professionally in the field and reinforces our commitment to being easy to do business with.

12) Sales Plan Achievement

Achieves or exceeds the assigned sales plan while demonstrating a repeatable record of closing new customers and expanding strategic accounts.

A healthy, qualified pipeline created through disciplined prospecting and territory management
Consistent progress from first conversation through technical evaluation, quotation, and close
New OEM and end-user accounts that become durable, growing customer relationships
Strong customer trust built through responsiveness, honesty, follow-through, and practical problem solving
Reliable forecasting and visible execution against agreed sales activities and priorities
Effective use of internal technical resources without overpromising or losing ownership of the customer relationship

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires regional travel by car and occasional air travel — approximately 50% of the time, including overnight stays — to maintain consistent customer coverage across the SouthEast territory. Work is primarily conducted at customer sites and a home-based office, with periodic visits to Sheffer's Cincinnati, Ohio facility. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while driving, stand and walk during facility tours, and occasionally lift sales materials or product samples up to 25 lbs.

COMPENSATION & SUPPORT

Compensation includes a combination of base salary and commission (uncapped), with additional weighting toward new-customer business. A vehicle allowance and cell-phone allowance will be provided. The position also participates in Sheffer's applicable employee benefit programs.
