POSITION SUMMARY
Under general supervision, receives, transmits, and relays information concerning public safety and law enforcement activities to, from and between city, county, state and other public safety/emergency agencies; performs related work as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Receives all incoming communications, relays messages to appropriate personnel/agencies.
- Translates information given to the appropriate codes.
- Dispatches police, fire, and EMS.
- Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into a computer-aided dispatch system for radio dispatch.
- Ask vital questions and provide pre-arrival instructions for emergency medical calls.
- Records and maintains daily log of all communications.
- Prepares reports and records related to dispatch functions, as requested or required.
- Monitors various radio frequencies, alarm systems, and related alert systems.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor or E911 Manager.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES
- Ability to maintain composure and self-control.
- Ability to react quickly and calmly with good judgement in emergency situations.
- Is regularly present and punctual and arrives prepared for work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must obtain and maintain certification as a telecommunicator in order to complete probation; must possess and maintain LINK/NCIC certification.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No previous work experience required.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation from high school or equivalent.
